Chapter 8: Skylar

I feel warm and hear a purring noise. I try to move but I feel like a weight is across my waist. I feel sparks and know that its Xavier but when and how did he get into my bedroom. I try to link my mom but am met with a block. I guess it was her way of testing Xavier since he must have used the spare key that she gave him. I relax and feel the purring intensify. I can’t help the chuckle that escapes. I hear a groan and the grip loosens enough for me to turn around and face Xavier.

I see his amazing green eyes looking at me. “Good morning” I say to him as the purring stops. He closes his eyes. “Finally, he stops. I could barely sleep with his excessive purring” he grumbles. I chuckle and he looks back at me. “Sorry, I just find it a little funny. Did you make that purring noise all night long?” I asked him. He sighs and pulls me in closer to him. “Sorry, I barely slept thanks to Maverick and his purring. We both knew that you were hurting and he insisted to keep it up all night long.” Xavier tells me.

I cannot believe that they would do that for me. Someone that they barely know but yet here they are after everything that they learned last night. “Xavier why are you here?” I asked him. I had to know. He needs to tell me what he wants. I feared this moment and that is why I never wanted to have another mate but this man, after hunting for me and then staying by myside while I was recovering has made his way into my heart. I never thought that I would open up to another man and this man here has changed that.

He sighs and kisses the top of my head. “I was worried about you. You left last night and I felt how upset you were. Maverick kept bugging me about getting to you. I stayed to listen to everything at the request of your parents and beta.” He knows the truth. He knows there is a chance I may not give him an heir. “Xavier, I am so sorry. I never meant to hid it from you. Its…..it’s not….” “Sky, its ok. I know it was not an easy thing to talk about. Your mother told me a few things about vampires and their fated mates. I know that I have a lot to learn about you and how our mating is going to work but I promise you that we will get through this together.” I am shocked by his words. I feel the tears start to fall. He still accepts me.

I feel a hand come up to wipe the tears off my cheeks. “Why are you crying?” he asked me. “Because you are here and you...you stayed” I said between sobs. Xavier pulled me so that I am laying on top of him. He holds me there for who knows how long. I look up and see that he is watching me. I wipe the tears from my eyes and try to sit up but Xavier shifts to a sitting position with me in his lap.

I lay my head on his chest as he rubs circles on my back. “Skylar, I do not want to pressure you into anything but I want you to know that I here for you whenever you are ready to talk. I know your mother told me what happened a few things that is going to take some time for me to process but I am here for you.” He sighs and then places a hand under my chin to make me look into his eyes. “Skylar, I accept you as my mate and Luna. I know that we will have a few things to get through but I will not give up a perfect gift like you” I feel Sapphire howling in delight and I can feel the smile on my face. “Thank you, Xavier. I know that the idea of being able to have a biological heir is something that you will want and it may be something that I may not be able to give you but I promise you that I will do everything I can to protect your pack.”

“Thank you, Skylar. That is all that I can ask of you for our pack. We can adopt a pup is that is what you want and I can name that child as future alpha. Plus, we have other things to worry about before we can even think about children.” I am confused about that. “What do you mean?” I asked him. I knew he said that he and my mother talked but what all did they talk about. “Skylar, your mother told me what it means if you marked me. I told me about what mates mean in terms of vampires and what would happen when you mark me. I know that it will be a big change but I will do anything for you. I want to be with you for as long as I can” he tells me. I smile at that thought but I am reminded about that day when I felt the bond break.

I feel like the breath was taken from my lungs. He knows what my bite would do to him. My mother told him just about everything but forgot one important thing. “Xavier, it means a lot to me that hear you say that but there is one important part that I don’t think you are aware of.” I know that he may not like the idea. My first mate was a pure-blooded vampire and it was easy but this is going to be difficult for him. “Sweetheart, can this wait for after breakfast? I am starving and I really would like to have food in my system and a nice cup of coffee before you tell me something that I will need to digest. Plus, I want to be more awake when I learn more about you and what the next steps are for us to be together.”

I want to jump with joy and kiss this man. He wants to stay. He wants to learn about me and it means to be by my side. I lay my head back down on his chest and the purring starts again. I hear him growl and I chuckle. “You find this funny” he says in a very calm voice. I can help the laugher that breaks out. “I am going to get you back” he says and he stats to tickle me. I am in a full fit of laughter that he ends up joining in on.

We hear a knock on the door and I try to get up but Xavier bellows out “What do you want?” I start laughing again as Xavier continues to tickle me. “Skylar it’s your mother. I need to have a word with you and Xavier” I stop instantly and Xavier lets me up. I get up and walk over to my door and open it to see my mother standing there with my father. Xavier is right behind me and nod to them.

We go into the sitting room in my suit. Mom was in the kitchenette making some coffee while breakfast was brought up for us. Xavier brings a plate of food over for me and tries to feed me a bite of food. “Um, sorry. I am so use to seeming my father offer the first bite of food. It is kind of tradition that the alpha feeds his Luna first before himself.” I smile at him and take a piece of pancake that he offered me. “That is a wonderful tradition you have in your pack” my father tells him. He smiles and then takes a bite of his food.

When my mother sits to join us, she offered me a cup of blood and a turn it away not sure how Xavier will take it after finishing his breakfast. “I will have some later mom. You said you wanted to talk to us about something.” I asked her. “Sweetheart, you have to drink blood to get better.” “Mom, I will later. He is just warming up to the idea of me hunting but drinking blood with breakfast may not be a good idea right now.” I link her back. She frowns but does not push it. “Sky, you can drink it. It doesn’t bother me. You need to and I need to get used to see you drink blood.” I look at him with shock and amazement. Both of my parents smile and I take the cup that my mother offers. I try to sit a little further away but Xavier pulls me into his lap.

What is weird is that he sniffs my cup before nuzzling my neck. “Drink sweetheart” he tells me before I start drink my cup. I feel sapphire had the same question I did but we decided to wait till after we heard what my parents have to say.
