Six years, and I was finally back.
The second Flora saw me, she threw her arms around me in this giant bear hug, bawling and cursing me out. "You heartless jerk. Gone all these years, and you couldn't even be bothered to come home and see me!"
And then, like a little kid, she just burst into tears.
So embarrassing.
I rushed to clap a hand over her mouth. "Okay, okay. Don't cry, don't cry. And listen, you're coming to a party with me tonight."
That's Flora for you. Turns on a dime. One second she's sobbing her eyes out, the next she's totally fine.
She could tell I was about to say no. "You have to come. I already got your dress ready."
She could also tell exactly what I was worried about, so she added, "Relax. It's a masquerade."
"Fine. Okay."
What I was worried about was that big-shot entrepreneur. Randy.
After the makeup artist Flora hired worked her magic on me, even behind a mask, I still turned plenty of heads.
