The host's voice pulled everyone's eyes to the stage.
"Ladies and gentlemen, it's time for our next game of the night."
The second he finished, a spotlight landed on me and another man in a sharp suit.
"All right! Let's get this lovely pair up on stage for a dance. Give them a hand!"
The crowd broke into applause.
The man gave a smooth bow and held out a hand to me. His mask covered everything but his eyes.
"Shall we, Miss?"
For some reason, I put my hand in his and let him lead me up onto the stage.
I moved with the music as we danced. He slid an arm around my waist and leaned in close to my ear, his voice low. "You're a pretty good dancer, aren't you, Miss?"
I'd been to more of these black-tie things than I could count while I was living overseas. A little dance like this was nowhere near enough to rattle me.
So I just answered his compliment with a modest "Thank you."
I felt his arm pull tighter around my waist.
"Sir…"
"Catherine. You really haven't changed one bit."
Right there in front of everyone, I reached up and pulled off his mask. The face underneath was one I knew too well. Randy Lane.
"It's you?"
