On the way back to my house, I pulled the burner phone given to me by Director Sanchez out of my bag. I dialed the number for Rachel Roos, the executive assistant to the director. “Agent Cindy Evans. I haven’t heard from you in a minute. How are you?” I switched the phone to my left hand to allow me to use my right hand to navigate the bumpy road. “Hey Rachel. I’m doing all right except for someone taking a shot at me earlier today. Do you think the shooter could have been one of Abdul’s goons?” A low buzz of voices in the background filled my ears. “Sounds like a question for Deputy Cunningham.
