We waited and watched. I was impressed with his patience and calmness. He had his eye on the ball and wasn’t going to let her deviate from the point he was making. She got more shrill and red-faced as he let her spout. Then he calmly asked another question. I couldn’t make out what either of them said, just the cadence of the conversation. I admired how stoic he could be in the face of her attack. Did I really know this guy? He appeared to be an older version, maybe an uncle or cousin, of the exuberant Manny I knew in school. Yet lurking in a tiny bit of his smile or the quirk of his hand was a memory of the teenager whose d**k I knew as well as I’d known my own.
