Chapter 4 – Consuming my thoughts

1007 Words
The morning light almost burning my sunken tired eyes, I remained lying in bed as I had near all night watching my door. Barely able to sleep a wink, the look on Noah’s face, the smirk just came to mind over, and over again. His touch on my body still burnt into the flesh of my shoulders and arms, I had never felt so, well obsessed. Men usually not stirring an ounce of emotion from me, this was different. A few hours together, and he was consuming my every thought. This was not normal, and though he disrespected her constantly, Noah was with my sister. From what I could see, Noah put quite the same spell on her as he had myself. All but slapping myself out of the state he had me in, I could still not understand how I was so struck as I moved through my morning routine heading into the shower. Water usually relieving me of stress, there was no such luck today as I robotically washed my hair and body before stepping out and wrapping myself in a robe for breakfast. Exiting my bedroom door, I turned straight toward the door I left Noah at last night as the entire scene almost unfolded before me once more. The main part, me running away and turning to look back at him like a love struck teen at least. Shaking my head with force to dislodge the memory, I pulled my door much harder than I had intended as it slammed behind me echoing down the once silent corridor. The noise even startling myself, I almost jumped causing my heart to rapidly pulsate sending heat to enflame my skin. Looking around in a sudden and awkward feeling silence, I waited, listening out waiting to hear or see if someone else reacted to the sound. When nobody was revealed, and the hallway remain silent, I released a breath I had been holding since the slam of my door before tiptoeing down the corridor. Taking the stairs slowly as I watched each step beneath my feet, I found myself pausing near the base as I overheard voices flowing from the next room. My father speaking to my mother, I stood on my current step listening intently wanting to know their minds before announcing my presence. “Last night made it very clear that she has no control over him whatsoever. We will be lucky to close a deal before he gets bored of her.” My father’s voice in a tone of worry, I knew last night had not gone as any of us had expected or planned for that matter. Though to be honest, for me it was a rather enjoyable evening, other than the fact that I could not get Noah out of my mind. He was like a rubber band springing back to the forefront of my thoughts in an instant. Straining my ears and neck to hear a little better, I waited for my mother’s response. “You know it’s considered rude to eavesdrop on other people’s private conversations.” His voice sudden and unwavering, I jumped a near foot in the air in fright as my chest constricted painfully like I was going to have a heart attack. My body beginning to propel forward away from the voice, I lost my footing instantly slipping from the step. Resigning to fall down the few steps between myself and the landing, I knew instantly that I could not catch myself, this was going to hurt. Noah’s hands gripping at my sides, I found myself quickly pulled to his body as relief flooded my system before I was turned and released just as quickly. Everything happening so fast, I was unable to get out a single word before Noah’s voice sounded once more mocking me. “Dangerous too apparently.” My eyes instinctively shooting around for Lassa, I brought my embarrassed gaze back to Noah’s face when I failed to find her before taking another swift step back. Realising Noah’s eyes were scanning my body, I looked down pulling my morning gown closed and tightly around myself before tying the knot. Pulling myself together, I mustered the most irritated voice I could find. “I hear frightening and sneaking up on people is just as undignified.” A smile breaching his face and lighting his eyes, I adverted my own before changing the topic. “Are you joining us for breakfast Mr Lonte?” Noah’s body moving and placing himself once again in my line of sight, a smile pulling his lips even further upward at my question as he took a step toward me closing the distance between us. “It’s rude to not give eye contact when you speak to someone Olivia, and I thought I asked you to call me Noah.” A silent pause hanging in the air between us, I constantly felt like he one upped me. “I would love nothing more than to join you for breakfast, but I have a morning meeting. Though…” Noah taking yet another step forward, his hand rose and dropped on my shoulder as I froze at the touch and gentle squeeze. “I’ll see you tonight for dinner. Please say my thanks to your parents for last night, and an apology for leaving without greeting them this morning, I’m rather in a rush.” Left in a palpitating mess, I thought my ribs would crack with the heavy beats of my heart as I turned seeing Noah’s perfectly formed designer shirt wrapping around his muscular back as he walked toward the front door. Wanting him to turn, wanting him to give me another word, another look, my heart almost sank as he exited the front doors without even a brief look back. Hey guys I hope you enjoy my story.
