SOMETHING SHOULD JUST STAY HIDDEN

“I swear to the mother nature that I didn’t tell him anything about you…”

“Say it and you will buy me dinner tonight.”

Even though it still 7 in the morning, the café that there are in are full of people. Not a little bit of the word ‘SILENCE’ can be found even early in the morning. Orwin who have just finished his breakfast reach out for napkin in front of Maria. Maria yawning as she did not get enough sleep last night. ‘Well, I can just sleep at the student lounge after class,’ she thought. Orwin who sit on the opposite side of Maria looks like he is in a lot of thought.

“Say Maria, you already know Andrew for…” Orwin pause a bit, forget how long have Maria knew Andrew.

“10 year” Maria cutting off Orwin silence.

“That’s longer than you know me. Like, a lot.”

“Don’t exaggerate things. I know you just a year after I meet him.”

“Ahhh, I still remember the day I move to our school. You so grumpy about me having to sit beside you” Orwin smiles while putting back a cup of tea he take a sip before.

“Of course, duh. Why do I need to sit beside a boy who wear school uniform with track pants on his first day of school? You are weird from the first did you know.”

“Hey, don’t judge. It’s just because I slip at the puddle in front of the school. By the way that’s not what I want to talk about. You already knew Andrew for so long. I think its logic that you fall in love with him right now and I also think that he also feels the same about you. Don’t you think you should just, you know… confess to him” Orwin reaching out for his tea again, a little bit nervous to talk to her about this since she always hates to talk about anything related to love. Cold hearted? No. Maria is one of the sweetest girl she ever know. Experience breaks up? Also, not since she’s never been in any relationship even though she quiet famous among boys when there were still in high school.

“Nah, don’t want to. Never want to” she said while glancing everywhere to make sure no one her know was there. It will be a big trouble for her if people she knows heard about what Orwin said.

“You said that, but I think you already know about how you can’t resist that feeling anymore. Just like how you jealous when he walks with other girls the other day, or when you mad when he also invites me when you ask him to play games together the other night” Orwin tried to looking straight to Maria’s eyes but she avoid that. She knows what Orwin said is true. She has been keeping her feeling for 5 years and it every day, it’s been harder to keep that feeling.

“It’s just… I don’t want to risk our friendship right now. What if after I confess to him, and he rejects me. It will be hard for us to stay friend. It will be awkward. It will not be the same as now anymore” Maria gives up. She finally looking straight to Orwin. She thinks maybe by talking to Orwin about this she can ease up a little bit. “I’m happier this way. I can play games with him every weeks. I can hang out at his place with you. We are… happier this way.”

“Did you know sometimes you can also be as stupid as me?” Orwin sighing after hearing what Maria just said.

“What?” Maria gasped.

“Why did you already scared about the things that not happen yet. In this world, it will always be 50/50 chances of success when we do things. It just either will you take the step to reach the success or not. Don’t be a coward.”

“Doesn’t it human’s nature to be afraid of the unsure? I’m not trying to be coward. It just, I want to take the safest way” Maria takes a look at her watch. Its already 7.50am. She grabs her beg and start to walk away. Orwin who also realize that class is almost started also following Maria.

“Well, if you still haven’t had the courage to tell him, at least try to hide that jealousy better. By the way, where is Andrew?” Orwin walks side by side with Maria, tries to keep with her pace. He checking to his email, hoping for luck that his class will be canceled today but didn’t seem like it will happen.

“His class start at 11 so he will come later.”

“Not fair. Well, my class will be this way. See you at lunch” Orwin said before he part aways with Maria. She sighs a little. Still thinking about what Orwin said before. Suddenly, her right pocket vibrates, a little bit shocking her. She takes out the smartphone inside and reading the notification on the screen.

“Canceled? When I’m already at the campus? Gosh!” she almost screaming. If she knew early on, she would stay on the bed right now. She thinks maybe she can sleep at the student lounge, so she starts to walk there but suddenly her phone vibrates again. She looks at the screen again.

“Huh?”
