Chapter 2

1444 Words
Astrid’s POV It’s been a week since it happened but I can’t still wrap my head around it. It felt like a dream that was too far from becoming my reality but it did happen. I know it wasn't a mere dream because his mark was still here. I am marked by an alpha and my mother has still no idea about it because before she could even get home Alpha Knoxx already left the house and I cleaned all the traces that might reveal what I did. “Astrid!” I immediately climbed down the tree when I heard my mother calling me. The moment she saw me I flashed a smile but that didn’t stop her from pinching my ear. “How many times do I have to tell you that you shouldn’t get near the border of Wild Midnight Claw territory? What if they see you? What if you got caught, Astrid?” I held her hand to remove it from my ear and when she finally did I immediately rubbed it to lessen the pain. “I won’t get caught, Mom. They are all busy preparing for the celebration. The guards aren’t around to guard the border,” I clung my arms to my mother and leaned my head against her shoulder as we started walking. “And I also heard that their territory will be open tonight. The neighboring packs will be invited and maybe…” I stopped from walking and looked at my mother with a sweet smile plastered on my face. “Maybe I could sneak in Mom,” I added and that made her look at me sharply. “Are you insane Astrid?! It’s already dangerous that we are lurking near their border and now you want to enter their territory? Do you want to get killed?!” “I won’t get caught, Mom. The theme of the party will be a masquerade ball. Everyone’s faces will be covered so no one can recognize me and besides I want to attend that party,” I need to talk to him. I need to know if he will stay true to the promise he made. I wanted to know if he would accept me as his Luna once I revealed my real identity. Mom shook her head firmly completely against my idea. “You won’t attend that party, Astrid. You won’t risk your life for that stupid party,” “But Mom!” I complained and looked at her pleadingly but it wasn’t working. She looked mad now as if any moment from now she was close to hitting me. I can’t tell her that Alpha Knoxx personally invited me to his territory. I can’t tell her that I let Alpha Knoxx mark me and he wants me to become his Luna. I know she would not like it and she might forbid me from going out again so I had to make sure first that Alpha Knoxx would accept me for who I am. This is our only chance. I am tired of living in the darkness. I am tired of watching her leaving the house every night risking her life just to get us food. I want to have a normal life. I want to give my mother a normal life. “No more buts Astrid. My decision is final. You won’t attend that party end of discussion,” she firmly uttered before she started walking away leaving me behind. Tears cascaded on my cheeks but before she could disappear from my sight I spoke. “Why do we have to live like this Mom? Why do we have to hide?” She turned around facing me. I could not see her face clearly because my vision was blurred with my tears. “Do you hate this kind of life Astrid?” she asked pain evident in her tone but even though I knew that she was hurting I still nodded. “Yes, Mom I hate this life. I hate being a rouge. I wish I wasn’t born as your daughter. I wish I had a normal family and a pack where I belong,” A sad smile grace on her lips as she weakly nods her head. “I’m sorry for giving you this kind of life Astrid. I’m sorry if we don’t have a pack,” After saying those words she turned her back on me but I saw how her hands touched her face wiping her tears away. I made her cry but I could no longer take back what I said because she already disappeared from my sight. When Mom was gone I was left standing in the forest my feet glued to the ground. I want to run after her and apologize. I want to tell her that I didn’t mean to say those words. I didn’t mean to hurt her but the damage had been done. I already hurt my mother. When the surroundings started to get dark I headed back home. I know by this time my mother already left to hunt for food but upon stepping inside our house I saw her sitting on our bed holding a familiar thread that made my entire body freeze. “I haven’t used this thread Astrid but I noticed blood on it something that doesn't belong to you because it smells different,” I felt my knees weaken when she stood up and started walking towards me. I tried to take a step back to get away from being confronted but my back already hit the door and I was cornered by my mother. “Whose blood is this Astrid?” I swallowed the lump on my throat and tried to take the thread from my mother but she threw it on the ground and held my face tightly. She looked at me with her eyes filled with rage. This is the first time I saw her get this mad. “Answer my question, Astrid! You let someone inside our house while I was gone?! Did you help someone?!” I shook my head refusing to answer her question but my fear doubled when her eyes darted to my neck so I immediately covered it with my hand but she forcefully took it off. Tears streamed down my face when she held my neck and caressed the mark that Alpha Knoxx had left. “Who marked you?! Who f*****g marked you Astrid?!” she shouted which echoes in the entire forest. My sobs filled the room and I started gasping for air from too much crying but Mom didn't seem to care. She was demanding an answer and I knew she won’t let go of my face until I gave her one. “A-Alpha Knoxx,” I responded which made her eyebrows furrowed. “Alpha Knoxx the Alpha of Wild Midnight Claw marked me, Mom,” Upon hearing my response a hard slap landed on my face making me fall on the floor. “You let the alpha of Wild Midnight Claw mark you? Are you out of your mind Astrid?!” Her face started to turn red and her breathing became heavy while looking at me. “He will make me his Luna, Mom. I plan to meet him tonight and live with him. He will accept us in his pack Mom,” “Does he know that you are a rouge? Did you tell him that you are a rouge Astrid?” I fell silent when I heard my biggest fear. He doesn't know. He has no idea that I am a rouge. I slowly shook my head. “But he will accept us Mom I can feel it. He is a good man,” “He won’t,” she firmly uttered as if she knew that man too well. “He won’t accept you once he learns that you are a rouge. He hunts rouge Astrid. He kills any rouge on sight to avenge his mother’s death. His mother was killed by our kind and do you think he will still make you his Luna once he learns that you are a rouge? He will kill you, Astrid,” He won’t do that. He might hurt me but I know he won’t kill his blood. “He won’t kill me, Mom,” I firmly uttered looking at my mother confidently which left her confused. “How sure are you Astrid?” Without breaking off our gazes I held my belly and looked at my mother intently. “Killing me means killing his child. He can’t kill me if learns that I am carrying his child, Mom,”
