Astrid’s POV
An alpha will never turn back on his promise. He will stay true to his words. That’s what I kept on repeating inside my head as I started walking towards his territory.
The moment I got closer to the border I held my mask tightly and took a deep breath.
“You will be fine Astrid,” I told to myself before facing his men who guard the border.
My heart was beating hard against my chest the moment I faced his guard. I flashed a smile trying to hide the nervousness that I felt inside.
They looked at me intently and the way they stared made my knees weaken but I gathered all my strength to stand still.
“Which pack did you come from?” they asked strictly which made my heart even more erratic.
I can feel my hands getting cold and sweat started to form on my forehead. A huge lump formed on my throat making it hard for me to speak.
“Which territory did you come from?” they repeated which made me even more nervous.
“I-I,”
I couldn't think of anything. My mind was blocked making it hard for me to name one territory.
“Why is it taking so long? How long do we have to wait here?”
Someone behind me spoke.
“We will miss the party if you keep on doing this. Why can’t you just let her in? A rouge won’t dare to step inside your territory anyway. They will just meet their death if they do that,” a woman uttered.
Guests behind me are already losing their patience and to stop them from making commotion the guards let me in but I can feel their lingering stares.
I feel like a heavy stone was lifted off my chest the moment I passed the guards.
I am now inside the Wild Midnight Claw territory. Any moment from now I know I will see him.
I feel scared just by the thought of it but I felt happy as well knowing that after this Mom and I will have a pack that will take us in.
The moment I reached the garden where the loud music where coming from a huge smile grace on my lips.
It was my first time attending a party. I can’t help but feel excited as I roam my eyes around. Everyone was wearing masks making them unrecognizable.
All the guests were happily dancing to the beat of the music while enjoying the drink in their hands.
It was something that I had never experienced before. I was just watching from afar and I never thought I would be part of one someday.
“Beloved guests I gathered you here tonight to make an important announcement. Tonight, I will introduce the future Luna of my pack,”
He will introduce me?
I never thought that he would prepare a grandiose party just for me.
Despite the fear and nervousness that I felt I made my way through the crowd and walked toward the stage but before I could even get closer, he uttered a name different from mine.
“Seraphina Sinclair the daughter of King Theodore,”
I felt my body freeze as I directed my gaze on the stage and the moment I saw a beautiful woman wearing a beautiful red dress walking towards Alpha Knoxx I felt my heart sink.
Half of her face was covered with a mask but I could tell that she was beautiful. She has a perfect figure that was perfectly hugged by the gown she was wearing.
“Once the blood moon appears on the night sky I will mark Seraphina as my Luna and she will live in my territory to help me rule my pack,”
Everyone clapped their hands showing their deep support for Alpha Knoxx's decision. Everyone looked happy while I was watching them with tears streaming down my face.
He made a promise. He told me he would make me his Luna.
I was about to take a step forward eager to talk to him but before I could do that guards surrounded us blocking my way towards the stage.
“There is a rouge inside our territory Alpha Knoxx,” one of the guards announced, and hearing those words made my inside panic.
I started pushing everyone around me eager to escape but the guards noticed me brought me on stage and made me forcefully kneel in front of Alpha Knoxx.
Tears started falling on my eyes again the moment our eyes met.
A smile was plastered on his face. Not the kind of smile that tells me he is happy to see me but a kind of smile that brought me a different kind of fear.
“I never thought you would come,” he told me telling me that he recognizes who I am despite the masks that I was wearing.
I tried to remove the hold of his guards on me but they held me even tighter.
“You told me to come! You promised that you would make me your Luna, Alpha Knoxx,”
I sounded desperate. I could hear murmurs from the crowd and some of them were laughing at me.
“You believed that?” he mockingly asked.
I felt so small. All I wanted was to disappear and just go back to the forest. I should have listened to my mother. I shouldn't have trusted the promise of an Alpha.
“Then why did you mark me? Why did you claim me? Why did you utter a promise that you will never fulfill,”
He took a step forward and held my chin making me look at him directly in the eyes.
“To avenge my mother. To make your kind pay for killing my mother,”
“I am not like them. I never hurt anyone. We were living quietly in the forest and didn't cause harm to anyone,” I desperately uttered hoping that he would believe me but instead, an insulting laughter slipped out of his lips.
“Rouges will always be rouges, Astrid. You are meant to cause harm and kill the innocent. It was in your nature so you can’t fool me that you are different from them,”
I swallowed the lump that formed in my throat while doing my best to fight the intensity of his stare.
“So everything was a lie?”
He smiled and slowly nodded his head. “Yes, Astrid. Everything was a lie. You have fallen into my trap,”
I was lost for words. Tears became my response to his cruel words. How can he do this to me?
“Locked her up. Make sure she can’t escape. I will execute her in front of the pack when the sun rises,” he cruelly uttered.
Without any questions asked his men started dragging me cruelly.
“I trusted you Alpha Knoxx! You promised me!”
I can hear murmurs from the crowds. Some of them were looking at me mockingly probably laughing inside their head for seeing a fool like me.
None of them gave me sympathy. Mom was right… I should not come here.
After a few minutes of being dragged, they threw me inside a dark room.
“Try to escape this prison and you will meet your demise,” one of the guards warned before locking the door.
“Please let me out,” I weakly pleaded as I tried banging the door but it was no use. None of them listened to my pleas.
“Please let me out,”
I kept on pleading even though none of them bothered to listen.
I can feel my body weaken. My eyelids started to get heavy and no matter how hard I tried to fight my exhaustion consciousness left my body and the whole surrounding became quiet.
I don’t know how long I had been out but I woke up when I felt the strong ray of sun against my skin.
As I slowly opened my eyes I was welcomed by the bright light that almost blinded my vision. When my eyes finally adjusted to the brightness I saw Alpha Knoxx standing in front of me.
“You’re finally awake. How’s your first night at my territory? Did I meet your expectations? Don’t worry I will give you the least painful death as your payment for helping me,”
I stared at him not uttering a single word but the moment he turned around I managed to utter the secret that I had been keeping.
“I am carrying your child Alpha Knoxx,” I spoke which made him stop walking.
He slowly turned around and looked at me with his eyebrows deeply furrowed.
“You claimed me that night remember? You didn't just leave a mark on my skin but your blood started developing inside my body,” I held my belly while looking at him. I saw how his gaze landed on my belly before looking at me again. “Killing me means killing your child too, will you do that?”
He was silent but after a while, a smile grace on his lips and he started shaking his head.
“You’re lying. You were trying to get away from being executed so you were creating absurd stories,”
“Then call a doctor,” I bravely dared him. “Call a doctor and check if I am lying Alpha Knoxx,”
He didn't say anything but after a while, he stepped out leaving me questioning if he believed in my words or not.
He was gone for a few minutes but after a while, he came back. Behind him was a man wearing a white coat which I believed was the doctor of his pack.
“Check her if she is pregnant,” he coldly uttered.
He was watching me intently while his doctor started examining if I was telling the truth or not.
He checked my pulse and after a few minutes, he looked at Alpha Knoxx and nodded.
“She’s with a child Alpha Knoxx,” he confirmed.
Alpha Knoxx furrowed his eyebrows even more but after a while, he nodded acknowledging the doctor’s finding.
“You may leave and make sure no one will find out about this,” the doctor obediently nodded before stepping out of the prison cell.
When he was gone Alpha Knoxx looked at me intently and I did my best to fight the intensity of his stare even though I could feel fear slowly eating me up.
He kneeled in front of me and slowly removed the masks that I had been wearing since last night.
“No one saw your face last night right?”
I am getting confused about what he plans to do but I still nod my head.
“What are you planning to do?”
He took a deep breath and held my chin making our faces a few inches closer from each other.
“I will keep you alive but you must make sure that no one will find out that you are carrying my child. None of them was aware of what you look like so I will just create a story that you escaped and I will give you a new identity. I will make everyone believe that I bought you from a nearby pack as my slave. I will give you a chance to deliver the child but after you give birth you will be executed,”
“What will happen to my baby then?"
He stared at me for quite some time but after a while, he responded.
“I will recognize him as my child. He will bear my name and I will make him the next Alpha of the pack,”
I was silent having no idea how to respond. Is this the fate written for me by the Moon Goddess? Does it have to be this cruel?
