SeventeenChief Cross, Angela, and Paul had been busy in the commons hall. With the crazed and vicious Caleb, and the untried but untrusted Arthur, pacing with menace outside and with the inability to keep an eye on them in the deepening gloom of the coming storm, a decision was reached to fortify the community house. The front door, already blocked as a result of Caleb's rampage, received a second table for a batten and an added layer of stacked chairs. The inside door, under the stairs on the room's east side (communicating with the nature museum) was blocked in a like fashion. That door had been locked throughout, as had the outside door beyond, but the museum was surrounded by windows. No sense dealing with those; there were plenty of tables.
