She woke up not realizing she had drifted off. Michael was up and dressed again sitting in her armchair. She had been covered up and she was glad for that now. He heard her move and looked up at her from his phone. “Good morning sleepy head,” he said. Her eyes widened “is it really morning?” he smiled, “no but you've been asleep for hours. I thought I would stay till you woke up. I know what it's like to wake up alone.” He looked right at her as he said it too. She knew what he meant. Their first night together.
“I really thought I would never see you again, I figured you wouldn't want to wake up next to a cubby, unattractive woman. So I left.” The last few words were all but a whisper as she looked down, not wanting to see his reaction. Not wanting to see if that was what he felt or not. She wrapped the blanket around her and got out of bed and headed for the bathroom.
When she came back out she was surprised that he was still there. “You don't have to stay, I can clean up this mess we made.” “Nonsense, I will have our house keeper take care of it. “ came the reply. He stood up and walked over to her. He slowly leaned down to kiss her but she turned her head away from him. He frowned at her, “dont turn away from me Amber, i wont hurt you. I won't let you go like the others did.”
She felt tears start to sting her eyes,” please leave” she could barely get the words out. She didn't want him to see her cry. He seemed to hesitate but in the end he left the room. Once the door was closed and she heard him walk away. She let the tears fall. What had she done? She slept with a man and the married that man in a whirlwind of events and now they had slept together again!
She couldn't figure out why he needed a wife or what good would come of her marrying him for a year but she knew she had to be careful. He would never have feelings for her. Would never want her for more than a play thing and that hurt more than anything. Because she didn't know if she could resist him again. When it came to him she couldn't help herself and that was very dangerous indeed. Because it would not take much for her to fall in love with him. And that scared her.
