CHAPTER TEN The shout was followed by a hard thwack, and something transparent shot out of the woods in front of us. Duncan grabbed the top of my head and pushed me to a ducking position. The U.F.O. flew over our heads, and the next moment three figures flew out of the trees from the same direction the first object had appeared. I gaped at the spectral trio as they zipped over us. They were life-sized if you’ll pardon the pun, though their feet and lower foot of their legs faded into the ether. Their attire was quite different from one to the other, with one of the men wearing a nineteenth-century tweed suit and another in the regal attire of an Elizabethan courtier, complete with a puffy collar.
