CHAPTER SEVENTEEN I leapt backward and into the waiting arms of Duncan. That wasn’t good enough for me, however, as I attempted to climb on top of him, all the while the puppy in my arms yapped and wiggled. Duncan managed to scoop me into his arms and I watched with pounding heart as the snake slithered toward us. It was then that I saw the bemused smile on Duncan’s face, and I narrowed my eyes at him. “You know this snake, don’t you?” Julien was also all grins as he knelt down in front of the serpent and held out his hand. “This is Cory, Leana’s familiar.” Cory ignored the hand and lifted up his head some two feet off the ground.
