CHAPTER TWENTY-TWO
Duncan reached into his pocket and drew out the twig of berries. Somehow, they hadn’t been crushed in all the excitement. “We need you to look over these berries and tell us if there’s anything unusual about them.”
Eva took the berries and turned them over in her hands. “Do you suspect there’s something unusual about them?”
“I ate one without throwing up,” I told her.
Eva’s head shot up and she blinked at me. “Beg pardon?”
Duncan nodded. “It’s true. Adi consumed one, but when I attempted the same I, well, wasn’t as fortunate.”
Eva plucked one from the bunch and held it up to her face. “Then I suppose I should start the test with myself.” She used one sharp fingernail to slice open the skin on one side and she ran her tongue along the cut.
