CHAPTER TWENTY-FIVE The soft dripping sound I had heard came from the ceiling just inside the tunnel. The heavy rainwater had seeped through the earth and escaped into the basement. Duncan frowned as his dark eyes inspected the hole in the wall. “That’s very strange.” I snorted. “You mean not all of you have tunnels in your basement?” “It would be unwise for any of us to have one,” Duncan mused, and the tension in his voice gave my heart a murmur of fear. “Help me up,” I pleaded as the thought of hanging around the floor of that basement chilled my soul. Duncan helped me to my feet, and I was glad to find my legs were stable enough to hold me. That gave Duncan the opportunity to step over to the tunnel which he then inspected. I hurried after him with the puppy on my own heels.
