Lorraine and Beatrice were openly hostile towards Betty when she entered the kitchen well after lunch. Mr. von Kleist had informed Beatrice earlier that morning she had to defend her number two ranking against Beatrice the next day. This was enough for them to despise her. But the women hated her even more because she had her own coach. To top it all, she went out with her coach and only returned late the next day.
‘We do not need you in the kitchen. You come and go as you like. I cannot rely on you. Maybe it is time for Mr. von Kleist to fire you and to replace you with a woman with some work ethic.’ Lorraine knew very well this was empty threats. But she was mad at Betty and wanted to make a point.
‘Good luck with the fight tomorrow. I know we will give each other a good fight.’
