Stephen
Luna Lilly, Alpha Burke, and their Gamma were sitting in the waiting room nearest to the OR waiting for any sign of Elaine to give them an update. We have been waiting about an hour. Hunter, the Gamma’s son, was pacing up and down the hall not being able to sit still. He was her mate and his love for her was written in the worry of his face. I moved closer to him. “Hi, I am Stephan and I think we need to talk.” He only looked at me with anger flashing in his eyes, he was close to losing it. I did my research on him, he was a true alpha, one of the best werewolf fighters in the Northern hemisphere. He was in the military and recently retired. Everyone I spoke to about him and all the info I got said the same thing. A man of honour that is destined for greatness. A few of the younger Alpha I spoke to that knew him all said that they would be honoured to have him as their Beta and one or two even offered him the position, but he turned them all down, guess now I know why. “Hunter sit down, it is just a talk” I tried to smile and be as polite as possible in this moment. He looked at me, but it was as if he stared right through me. Between the lines on his forehead, you could read regret and pain. “Ok talk, Alpha boy” he said but keeping his eyes on the OR door. “Ok, firstly my name is Stephen, and I would have said it is nice to meet you if we met under better circumstances” he only stared through me. “Listen I am sure she will be fine, I know your sister, she interned at my pack hospital, we have great doctors and all of them said she was one of the best they ever seen.” He looked at me cleared his throat. “And what do you know, I am standing here feeling the pain she is feeling, feeling how she is becoming weaker and the only thing I can do is stare at the f*****g door, and you tell me that my sister is the best. f**k you man, I know my sister is the best, but I also know what that poison does to a werewolf. So rather just sit there and keep your mouth shut. Thank you very much.” As we were standing there, I began wondering why I allowed her to go through with this plan of action. I could lose a friend now, I more than anyone else knew the damage aconite could do to a person. I watched my heart crumble that night, I am still overcome with emotions if I think back at it now. If I would have only stayed up that night, I might have known how to save her life.
Elaine
After about four hours I was finally able to give news to my family and brother on Rose state. I had to give her a blood transfusion to help get rid of poison in her system. I also needed to perform reconstructive surgery on her calf as it did not want to heal due to the extent of toxic symptoms. I step out of my OR and was met with Hunter, my parents, my mate, Roses’ parents, and Stephen. “She is stable, the poison should be out of her system, and she should start healing soon, it might take longer but I am sure she will start. She is still in a coma and my immediate concern is an infection before her body starts to heal itself.” My mother started crying and my father pressed her against her chest. I could see a small tear dripping down the Luna’s cheek but when Alpha tried to comfort her, she gave him a cold shoulder. I could understand her feelings in that moment. “Are you sure, don’t we need a second opinion or something.” My brother voice was broken, I made eye contact with him, and I could see it written all over his face. “Hunter, I told you I got her, I am doing everything …” before I could finish, he let out a growl and put his fist straight through one of the walls. “Excuse me Hunter, I will not allow this type of behaviour in my hospital.” I said firmly. “I understand that you are worried, we have done everything we can. She is safe now and all we need is to give her time and although I have sympathy for you, I will not allow you to break down this hospital just because you cannot control your emotions. Your mate is in one of the best hospitals and if I have to say it myself, I am one of the best.” I stared right through my brothers’ distinctive green eyes. “She will be out in a second and you will be allowed to see her, and if you can control yourself, I will even allow you to stay with her, but if you continue to cause damage to my hospital, I will have no problem in having security removing you until you know how to behave.” I turned to my mate, and he instinctively followed me to the doctors’ courters. When he closed the door, I felt myself relax and all the day’s emotions washed over me. Iker pulled me closer to him and I placed my arms and legs around his body holding on to dear life, putting my head in the creek of his neck. I took deep breaths to calm myself. We stood there for what felt like an eternity. Iker never said anything he just hold onto me. “I pray to the Moon Goddess that she will be fine, Iker. I cannot lose my friend.” With that I heard the phone in the room ring, nurses always call here first if they cannot find me. Iker let go of me and I moved to answer the phone. “Dr Elaine, you need to come quickly, the Beta just showed up and all hell broke loose.” I could hear the commotion in the background as the nurse on the other end tried her best to stay calm. “I will be right there, call security so long. I want all these f*****g territorial men out of my hospital NOW.”
With that I stormed out of the room to see what was going on.
Grant
My mother had one of the medical students from the pack hospital come over to check me out. My neck was still sore but except for that I was fine and getting irritated with the situation. I needed to see her, make sure she was ok. She is ours now, you need to claim her. Loki was pacing in my mind, and I must say for once I agreed with the mutt. “Where do you think you are going?” my father asked as I started walking to the door. “To the hospital to check on my mate.” I said to him. “Are you insane, the best thing to do now is stay here, I have guards outside, once loyal to this family.” I looked at my father did he go mad or something. “And why do we need guards at the door?” I asked him. I look around to see my mother on the phone with someone, but it was not her normal cell phone, it must be a burner which means she was up to no good. She slammed the phone on the door. “f**k!” she shouted. My dad was next to her in less than a second rubbing her shoulders as he always did when she was upset. “Some of my little birds heard that young Alpha tell Elaine it was poison and Elaine ran a toxicology screen and it was positive.” She told my dad. “So, no one can prove it was me or us for that matter.” I stared at my mother waiting for her to confirm she took care of all the loose ends. “Of cause” she said through her teeth directing all her anger my way. “Then we just play this out.” I said about to exit the door again. “YOU WILL NOT STEP FOOT OUT OF THAT DOOR.” my father commanded. “No, wait honey, he is right there is nothing that can tie this to him, he needs to play the part. He should be at her side playing the mate role, otherwise it might cause suspicion. As far as everyone out there is concerned Rose lost conciseness, which we will spin as her softly confessing to Grant that she is tapping out. He must play the part now of the concerned mate.” She said to him in a calm and loving voice. “Yet her real mate is probably right next to her bed now and ready to kill you. He will not give her up easily.” my father said. “But she is mine, I deserve to be Alpha of this pack and I want her, she will play her role as Luna and carry my children. She will behave like women are supposed to behave, she will be submissive, and she will carry my mark.” I growled so loud the room stared shaking. “Honey he is right we need to play our cards right now. We all know there will be an investigation now and staying here with guards outside will look guilty. He needs to go.” My mother was firm with my father, and he knew there was no way in arguing with her. “You need to be the worried mate now; you need to play your part and play it well as your future depends on it Grant.” my mother said to me and with those words I left for the hospital. Once I entered, I immediately went to the information counter. “I am looking for an update on my mate, Rose. I have been knocked out after the challenge and I just came too, I need to know she is ok.” I used the saddest and most concern voice I had, and I even manage to shed a small tear to make it all believable. The she-wolf behind the counter was so touched by my acting she immediately gave me the info I wanted and with that I headed to the VIP ward. As I entered her room, I was met with the wannabe Alpha himself, Hunter. He immediately had me pinned against the wall, but I was ready for him, and head bumped him breaking his nose. “What the f**k are you doing here.” He asked through his teeth not caring if blood was running over his face, and I could hear his wolf busy to surface. “She is my mate, Hunter; she belongs to me.” I lowered my voice and looked him straight in the eyes. “Like hell you are, you have two seconds to get out of here before I kill you right here, right now.” he was serious, with that he took off his shirt and shoes, ready to shift if needed. I looked him straight in the eye and said, “Bring it”. He leaped at me, but I quickly douched him causing him to knock over a tray. Nurses stormed into the room, but I did not care, the only way I am leaving here was with her even if she did not want it. I quickly moved in with a left hook to his stomach, but he was always faster than me and blocked me delivering a kick to the side of my weak knee. “You have one of two choice leave….” he was interrupted by the Alpha’s loud roar. “Everyone out, NOW” his sister voice followed. Neither of us moved Alpha Burke closed the distance between us. He grabbed each of us by the ear like he did when we were little and in trouble. “You heard the doctor gentlemen; we will be leaving now.” He said in his Alpha tone pulling us by the ears out of the room. As we exited the hospital, he let go of us. “Now let me make myself clear, none of you have a claim to my daughter at this stage. She is in a hospital bed, connected to pipes and machine, fighting for her life. The last time I saw her like that was 30 years ago and I promised myself I will never allow it again. Yet I failed her today. I will not fail her now either you learn how to exist in the same room, or you will be banned from this hospital.” he was firm in his order, and he made sure we understood that there was no other option than to obey.
