We have been driving now for what feels like forever, this whole ride has been in silence and all I can think about is how will my life change if my wolf doesn’t come out. Xavier has been giving me a reassuring smile here and there along the way but hasn’t said anything, which part of me is thankful for.
I have been so lost in my thoughts that I didn’t realise we had stopped; I look around me and all I can see is trees, there is nothing around. So why have we stopped?
“We are here, come on baby.” Xavier says opening his door. I quickly follow his lead and jump out the car, he takes my hand and starts walking into the woods. I am about to ask how he knows where to go until I notice a small, hidden walkway that he is following.
“This witch we are seeing is old, and a little strange. But she wont hurt us.” He tells me.
“Ok. That is reassuring.” I say. I barely know much about my own kind, never mind other supernatural’s.
As we are walking down this path, I notice that the scenery is starting to change, and the air is changing. It feels strange. After a few more steps a small cottage appears in front of me, making me jump slightly. The only thing that makes sense is it was because of magic, I mean, we are seeing a witch after all.
“She does this for protection, only those invited can enter the barrier she created.” Xavier tells me. I just nod, having this amount of power must be incredible.
We reach the cottage and the door opens revealing a beautiful woman. Not what I expected, I was expecting your typical story witch, with grey hair, a big nose. But she is nothing of the sort, she is stunning. Her hair is dark black, reaching down to her mid-back, her eyes are bright violet too. I have never seen anyone with those colour eyes, her eyes and hair complement her pale skin beautifully. I am almost a little jealous.
We entered the cottage, Xavier greeted her instantly like old friends. While they were greeting each other, I scanned the room we were in, it was decorated like a typical cottage. The furniture was all wooden and there were beautiful ornaments all around. This is like a place you would pay to stay in.
“Hello my dear. My name is Piper.” The witch, Piper, approached me.
I turn to fully face her. “Hi Piper, it is a pleasure to meet you. My name is Freya.” I introduce myself.
“I know who you are my dear. Come lets take a seat and I will make us some tea.” Piper says to us both, guiding us to a round table.
We sit down while she goes to the kitchen and I can hear her sorting some water, I look to Xavier and he gives me a smile. “It will be ok baby.” He assures me.
“I know, I am just worried of the answers. How can I be your Luna if I don’t have an active wolf.” I admit. It is the first time I have told him how I am feeling, he didn’t push but I know he had been wondering how I was feeling.
“Whether you have an active wolf or not, you are the most amazing woman and my pack will love you regardless.” He tells me. I know he is true, but I have felt like I didn’t belong anywhere for so long, I don’t want to feel like that in my own pack.
Before I could respond Piper comes in with a tray of tea for us all. She sits and pours us both a cup, it smells incredible.
“Freya my dear. Can you please tell me everything, from when you first shifted.” Piper asks politely.
I glance at Xavier and he gives me a nod, he thinks I am wary to share but that’s not it. I have never told him about this part of my life, I haven’t told anyone.
“Ok, I never knew what I was, I was given up for adoption when I was a baby and I have been passed around the human system all my life. When I turned 17, I was living with an abusive family.” I start to explain, I notice Xavier tense when I mention the abusive family. “It was just past midnight so only a few minutes into my seventeenth birthday, and my adopted father hit me with his belt. I felt anger build up and I ran out the house, shifting in the process. I was confused as hell, but I never heard my wolf or anything, all I saw was my paws and I guess I put two and two together. I somehow shifted back, and I packed my stuff and left to find more of my kind. That’s when I learnt about rogues and how packs work, I haven’t shifted since and here I am.” I tell her.
“I am sorry you had to go through that. When you shifted for the first time, you didn’t hear her or anything?” Piper asks, giving Xavier a quick look that I cannot understand.
“No, I was just so angry and upset about the abuse that I cannot really remember what exactly happened in that moment.” I answer her.
“Hmm, if you are comfortable with it, I would like to try and communicate with your wolf using magic. It will not hurt you at all, what do you think?” She asks.
“Let’s do it.” I tell her. As nervous as I am, I need to know. I don’t think I could walk away now, even if I wanted to.
She gives me a smile. “Take my hands and try not to speak or move, you will feel the power around us but don’t worry, it is safe” She assures me again.
“Ok.” I whisper and put my hands in hers.
As soon as our hands touch, I feel a warming sensation, Piper then starts chanting. She is speaking so quickly I struggle to understand what she is saying but I understand some of the words. It sounds like she is asking permission to speak to my wolf. Not long into her chanting I start feeling a pain on the side of my head, I try to ignore it. Just as she said, I can feel the warming sensation and I can feel the power around us, but the pain is getting worse. It is getting harder to ignore, I keep tensing to try make it go away but it doesn’t. I look at Xavier, but it is like he is not seeing us, he is looking but almost like he isn’t seeing. I have no idea what is happening, but it seems Piper is in pain too, and I am starting to get worried. I try to let go but it is like our hands are glued together and I cannot budge them.
“Piper. Stop.” I try to say loudly but it comes out as a whisper as the pain gets worse. I want to scream from the pain as it intensifies, and it still seems like Xavier hasn’t noticed.
“Piper?” I say again, but she doesn’t notice me calling her. Her face is scrunched in pain and her eyes are squeezed shut. This is not going to end well; I can already feel myself wanting to pass out.
“PIPER!” I try to shout, but still nothing. “PIPER!” I try again. I need to stop this.
“STOP!” I shout as loud as I can and pull my hands back as hard as I can.
The moment I pull a power force sends us all flying backwards, I hit the wall behind me knocking the breath out of me. I quickly pull myself up and notice Xavier is getting up too with a worried expression on his face, I look for Piper and she is sitting up on the sofa ribbing her head. I am glad she had the sofa and not the wall like me and Xavier did. The pain in my head has completely gone now we have disconnected, and it looks like Piper isn’t in pain anymore either.
“Well, now I know why you said not to move. I am sorry that I let go, I had to. The pain was too much.” I say to Piper. I feel like I need to justify letting go after the blast we just got.
“Pain?” Xavier asks sternly. “You said there would be no pain.” He says to Piper. Although she looks just as shocked.
“Erm, no there shouldn’t have been. But Freya, that blast wasn’t from my spell.” Piper says, still shocked.
What does she mean the blast wasn’t from her. “Then what the hell happened?” Xavier demands.
Piper looks to Xavier, then to me. “I think it came from you.” She says to me. How could that come from me, that was power and as far as I was aware, wolves do not have powers.
“How?” I ask.
“Lets go and sit down.” Piper says, once again guiding us to the table. In the process we all pick up the chairs and sit back in the same seats we were before. Xavier takes my hand and gives it a small squeeze as we sit down.
“So, can you explain what the hell just happened?” Xavier asks first.
“Well first things first, I did communicate with your wolf.” Piper starts. That’s a good start.
“Really?” I ask.
“Yes, but it was painful, for us both. Your wolf is special, the power force we felt was not from the break in communication. It was because you and your wolf had, had enough of the pain.” She explains.
“I don’t get it though, how could I create that?” I ask.
“I think you have magic within you, as part of your wolf.” She tells me.
I look to Xavier and he looks confused. “I am guessing that is not normal.” I say to no one in particular.
“Is that why her wolf has not communicated?” Xavier asks Piper.
“From what I gathered is she is bound by the magic, so she physically cannot come out.” Piper explains.
“So how do we change that?” I ask instantly. I feel bad that my own wolf is bound within me and I have no idea how to help her.
“You need to establish what these powers are and whether you can control them. I can tell you how to do this, but ultimately it will come down to concentration and emotion.” She tells us.
I look at Xavier worried, I havent heard of any magical wolves. "What do I need to do?" I ask Piper.
"Well, when you do this it will drain your energy, so make sure you have eaten well and are physically prepared. Then I would suggest finding a secluded area, big enough so that if you cause any more blasts no one is hurt. Then it is about feeling the magic and picturing what it looks like, this will take the longest but once you do this then you can start to try control it. Most magic is affected by emotion, so the stronger the emotion, the stronger the magic. Do you understand?" She explains.
Sounds easy to remember at least. "Yes, I understand." I tell her confidently.
"Good, now if you need anything here is my number." Piper hands me a business card with her number on, I take it and give her a nod.
"Thank you Piper, we will get going now and let you rest. Thank you again, you have been a big help." Xavier tells her. We all say our goodbyes and we leave in silence.
One thing I know is the next chapter in my life will not be easy.
