I'm about to get married

~Lyra~ I still had one week to go to the rogue village and bid everyone farewell before starting a new life so I woke up early the next morning and started my usual routine. I'm just grateful that my dad didn't ask me to stop all of a sudden, he at least gave me time to say goodbye. There are times when his actions make me feel like he cares about me somewhere deep down but I would rather not have that kind of wishful thinking. I waited until everyone left the house before I also set out on my journey after completing my chores. When I arrived at the place where I met the handsome stranger, memories of the previous day flooded my mind. I wish I knew his name at least. Instead of proceeding with my journey to the village, I lingered around that place a little bit, hoping he would just pop out of nowhere like he did yesterday. After waiting for about twenty minutes without any sign of him around, I decided to leave but my gaze went up to the tree absent mindedly and there I saw those hazel eyes, staring right back at me. He looked flustered and lost his balance on the tree but he steadied himself before he got to the floor. A smile crept up my lips when he refused to look at me out of embarrassment. "Are you always in the tree?" I asked to clear up the silence. "N.. no! I mean, yes" he stuttered. He looks cuter this way and I can't believe someone is actually flustered before me. I used to be the one flustered and embarrassed so this is entirely new to me. "Were you waiting for me?" I asked again "I was" he admitted and finally fixed his gaze on me. My breathe got caught in my throat when I had a close look at his face once again. He seems to have gotten younger and hotter overnight. I quickly shook my head to dismiss my thoughts and I looked away in embarrassment. "You don't look like you live around here so why are you always coming?" he asked. "I've been trying to find a cure for the plague but so far, I haven't been able to and unfortunately, I don't know if I will have the chance to anymore" I said sadly after remembering what my dad said yesterday. "Why? If you keep trying without giving up, you might be able to make a cure" he said. "Let's leave that discussion for some other time. Are you new here? I've been taking this route for about two years now and I've never seen you before" I asked. "Yes. I belong to another pack but we came here for business" he said. "Ohh..." I mouthed. How I wish he turns out to be the stranger my dad wants me to marry. "I have to leave now, the rogues will be waiting for me" I said and turned around to leave but he stopped me with his question. "What's your name?" he asked. "Lyra. My name is Lyra. What about you?" I asked too since I've been wanting to know "Rowan" he answered. His name is just as pretty as his face. "Will you be here tomorrow?" I summoned up courage to ask. "Do you want me to be here?" he asked and my cheeks flushed. "I don't know, I'm leaving now" I mumbled and ran to the rogue village. I don't know why my heart keeps beating faster than usual whenever I'm with him and it feels like he can hear my loud heartbeat. I put the thought of him at the back of my mind and focused on what was before me. Since I only have a week to round things up, I want to see if I can come up with a cure within that time frame. I know it's close to impossible but I will feel better if I give it my all at least. The day went by as usual and I returned home to my chores. I was looking forward to meeting Rowan tomorrow so I slept later than usual but fortunately, I woke up by 4 am when my alarm rang. I would have been in deep trouble if I woke up late. I arrived at our meeting place and the first place I looked at was up in the tree. He was already there but this time around, his eyes were closed like he was sleeping. I never thought he could be more handsome than he already is but I guess I was wrong once again. I watched him sleep peacefully from where I was standing on the ground until he woke up a few minutes later. "Didn't you sleep at night?" I asked when he got down. "I slept but not much. I had things to finish if I wanted to see you this morning" he said. Is he in a similar predicament as mine? I don't think so because his clothes says otherwise. "I figured you might have not eaten this morning so I brought something for you" I said and unwrapped the breakfast I brought. Since I'm the only one that enters the kitchen anyway, no one will notice anything at home. "Did you make it yourself?" he asked and I nodded my head shyly. He took a bite and I eagerly waited for his comment. "It's delicious. You must have been cooking for long to be this good" he said. "Yes, I've been cooking for a while now" I confessed. "Really? No wonder why it's so good. Have a bite too" he said and tried feeding me but I refused and picked one myself. "So about the cure, have you been able to get anything?" he asked after we were done eating "Not yet and unfortunately, I don't even have much time left" I said with a sad smile. "You don't have much time left? What do you mean by that? Are you sick?" he asked with worry all over his face "That's not it. I really have to go now but I will definitely let you know if I won't be coming anymore" I promised and left The days went by smoothly with me spending time with Rowan every morning before going to the rogue village and before I knew it, a week was up already. The days I spent with Rowan were probably the best days of my life and I knew we had formed a bond overtime but whatever we had has to end today since I will be getting married soon. To be honest, I feel like I was unfair to him. I shouldn't have started anything with him, knowing my predicament. We didn't officially date but we both know how we feel for each other deep down. Putting everything behind me, I set out on my final journey to the rogue village. As usual, Rowan was waiting at our meeting place but he was looking even more handsome than usual and I noticed a small box with him even though he was trying to hide it. "I have something to say to you" he said with a smile on his face but I cut him off before he could say anything. "I have something to tell you too. I won't be coming anymore because I'm about to get married" I said with a straight face. "You had a mate all along?" he asked. "I don't have a mate but my parents want me to get married because I'm not getting younger" I said. "Then I can just tell them that I want to marry you instead" he said. He wants to marry me even though we only met a few days ago? I know we like each other but there's no assurance it will continue that way forever. Besides, my dad definitely won't agree to our marriage. "They already have someone in mind and nothing will change their decision. The few days we spent together were the happiest days of my life but we can't be together. I'm sorry for wasting your time" I concluded and walked away. Throughout the day, I couldn't concentrate and even the rogues noticed but I lied that I was okay. Deep down, I wanted to say I was not okay and cry on someone's shoulder but I grew up learning to swallow my tears no matter how hurt I was or how unfair things were to me. I dragged my feet home that evening and prepared dinner after which I went to my room. My plan was to go to bed without eating that night but it was ruined when I heard a knock on the door. "Dad wants you in his study" Aria said and left. What could he possibly want now? I already know about our meeting with my so called partner tomorrow so why does he want to see me. "Take a seat" he said as soon as I got in. So I have to sit for this? It has to be something important or the discussion will take a while. "It's about the meeting tomorrow" he said after a few minutes and paused to see if I was following. "We will be meeting with the son of the Beta of Night Shadow pack so I want you to behave properly and not ruin the name of our pack. He doesn't know you are wolfless so don't make it obvious. It's his honor to marry the daughter of an Alpha so it doesn't matter whether you have a wolf or not. Make sure you're refined and elegant throughout the meeting tomorrow" he concluded. "If he's around my age, does he not have a mate too?" I asked. "He had a mate but she passed away not too long ago. They were married" he said "So I'm getting married to someone that has been married before? Even though I'm the Alpha's daughter?" I croaked "You don't have a choice. There's no one willing to marry you in this pack so it has to be someone from outside the pack" he said and I was tempted to bring up Rowan but I swallowed it. I don't know if Rowan has any high position in his pack because if he doesn't, it won't work and he might even have to suffer instead. "I've heard you. Can I leave now?" I asked on my feet already "Sure! Make sure to dress up beautifully tomorrow" he added and I scoffed on my way out of his study I'm only allowed to dress up like the Alpha's daughter when I'm to grace any occasion as the Alpha's daughter. I also wear a veil to give off a mysterious vibe since I'm wolfless. I absolutely can't wait for tomorrow to come to an end. *Next day* I went about my routine as usual and started getting ready for the meeting afterwards. I dressed prettily like Dad wanted and wore a veil. Just like he wanted, a mysterious aura surrounded me and I was totally different from the healer that went to the rogue village. We got into one of Dad's expensive cars together with my stepmom and we soon arrived at the venue. The beta's family should have come to our house especially since my dad is an Alpha but they changed the venue at the last minute and we had no choice since my dad wanted to marry me off quickly. It was a VIP room in a five star restaurant and the other family was waiting already. We exchanged pleasantries and I acted graceful like Dad said last night. "We're sorry for the inconvenience. Our son decided to change the location at the last minute" the Beta said. Wow! So it was the son that made the decision and his parents obliged? Male children are sure different, a wolfless female like me wouldn't dare. "It's okay. This is my first daughter. She will take off the veil later after she marries into your family and trust me, she's beautiful" My dad said. "Of course! We wouldn't expect less of an Alpha's daughter. Which date do you have in mind for the marriage?" the Beta asked. "As soon as possible, there's no need to delay it" My Dad said but the beta's son raised his hand in objection. I noticed he has had a smirk on his face since we got here and I have a bad feeling about it. "What is it son?" the Beta asked. "Who said we are here to pick a wedding date? We are here to cancel the marriage since it won't be happening" he smirked To be continued... © Tricia
