Mate!

I knew something seemed off about him from the moment we walked in.

"What are you talking about? Why are we cancelling the marriage?" his dad asked.

"Because the Alpha's daughter does not have a wolf. Since when she was born until now, she has never shifted even once" he said and I gulped hard

"Is this true? You were going to deceive us into marrying your wolfless daughter?" the Beta asked and stood up

"That's not it..." my dad paused, unable to form a single word. I'm sure he wasn't expecting this new turn of events but I wonder how the son knew when even his parents were unaware.

"This marriage talk is over, let's go" the Beta said and left with his son.

"How did they find out?" Dad asked after they left but my stepmom and I kept quiet since we didn't know how.

I guess my marriage is cancelled for now and rumors about me will probably start spreading soon. I should brace myself for what is to come.

I took a shower after returning home tired and just as I was about to sleep, Aria came in.

"Why did you come into my room without knocking?" I sighed. I should have locked my door immediately I came in because knowing Aria, she's here for trouble.

"Don't be so annoyed already sis, I only came here to ask about how your marriage talk went. Dad seemed to be in a bad mood but I couldn't ask him. Did something happen?" she asked.

"Whatever happened is none of your business but if you really want to know, ask your mom since we went together" I gritted

"Don't tell me... Did he find out you are wolfless?" she gasped with shock written all over her face and I gave her a suspicious glare. How did she know that was what happened? Suddenly, the shock on her face disappeared and was slowly replaced with a smile

"You won't be getting married in this lifetime for as long as I'm alive. I only jogged up your memory to remind you that no one loves you and that you're nothing but a wolfless woman. Also, I can't let the poor guy get married to you without knowing that you are wolfless right? That would be so unfair to him when he's not even your mate" she said and I felt helpless

So she was the one that told him I was wolfless? I know I didn't want the marriage so there's no need to be too upset but what if it was something I wanted? How can someone I call my sister do this to me?

"Cat got your tongue?" she smirked when I refused to say anything

"If you're done talking, please leave. I want to sleep" I said and turned my back at her.

Now that the marriage is cancelled, do I stand a chance with Rowan? I don't know if Dad will accept him but I need to find out his position in his pack first.

*Next day*

Dad called Aria and I to his study that morning and I wondered what it was about. Unlike what I thought, the news about me being wolfless didn't spread and I wonder if my dad had anything to do with it.

"Alpha Ashen will be visiting our pack today and I want both of you to stay indoor from now on till he leaves. Lyra, you are not allowed to go to the rogue village and you're to keep your veil on at all time. Aria, refrain from going out to meet any friends for now. I'm sure you've heard that he's the most ruthless Alpha of our time so if you don't want to catch his attention and end up leaving with him, stay in your room. That's all" he concluded and dismissed us.

I've heard about Alpha Ashen and his brutality from a few people but hearing it from my Dad confirms everything I heard. I'm already living in hell here and I don't want a much bigger hell so I will make sure to stay indoor until he leaves.

It's been almost two weeks since I arrived at Springfield with some of my pack members. I have a few things to do here and I already took care of the first part. I only need to visit Midnight pack now and ask for a healer since they have the best healers in our kingdom.

Rowan came in almost immediately but he looked sunken when I was expecting to see smiles on his face as usual. For almost two weeks that we've gotten here now, he has been going to an unknown place every morning and always returns as the happiest guy on earth. I asked him where he was going or who he was going to meet countless times but he refused to tell me. With the look on his face now, I guess things have turned sour.

"Did your lover run away?" I asked.

"I never said I was seeing a lady" he rolled his eyes

"You never said so but it's obvious right? How can she run away though when she got herself a guy that looks like a god?" I teased

"We should visit Midnight pack as soon as possible so that we can return to the pack. We've been away for too long" he said, changing the topic

"Yeah yeah, let's change the topic like you want" I said

I'm the Alpha of Blood Moon pack and Rowan became my Beta recently. We've been best friends since we were children even though we didn't initially belong to the same pack but that's a story for another day. I unfortunately don't have luck when it comes to having a mate as my first mate died even before we could form a bond and since then, I haven't found another mate. Rowan on the other hand found himself a beautiful mate but he refused to accept her because he thinks she's evil. If I have the chance to get another mate, I won't even care whether she's evil or ugly as long as she's worthy to be my Luna.

I sent a message to Alpha Fenric of Midnight pack the next day, informing him of my visit and went there with Rowan later in the day. I was about to go into the room for the meeting when I saw a lady. She was wearing a veil that covered every part of her face except her eyes and I could tell she was pretty even though she passed like a wind. I ran outside to where I saw her immediately but she seemed to have disappeared the way she came.

"What's wrong?" Rowan asked

"It's nothing, let's go" I mumbled and went back to the meeting room

At the meeting, Alpha Fenric welcomed us warmly and even provided us with a place to rest for the night after promising to present the healers to us the next day.

Throughout that night, I couldn't sleep because I kept seeing that strange lady. When I closed my eyes for a few minutes, I dreamt that I removed the veil from her face but I still couldn't see her face before I woke up.

"Is something bothering you?" Rowan asked and I decided to tell him about it

"I saw a lady when we entered Midnight pack today and I can't seem to get her off my mind" I explained

"Is she your mate?" he asked.

"You think I would have let her go if she was my mate?" I sneered.

"Ohh... You should forget her then since she's not your mate" he advised

"You think I don't want to? But what am I supposed to do when she refuses to leave my head?" I sighed frustrated.

"So you are in love?" Rowan teased

"In love my foot!" I snapped at him. The night went on like that with me being unable to sleep and before I knew, it was morning.

Like Alpha Ashen promised, he brought the healers to us and ranked them according to how good they were. They also need healers since the plague spread through everywhere in the werewolf kingdom so I'm sure he didn't present all the best healers but it doesn't matter as long as we get a good healer.

"We will pick this two, please get them ready for us. And we would like to stay here till evening before we leave, I hope you don't mind?" Rowan asked. I already told him that I would like to stay till evening in case I come across that lady and I don't like talking much when we're outside so Rowan does the talking most of the time.

"Of course not! You are welcomed to stay here for as long as you want" he said

"I heard you have two beautiful daughters but how come we don't see any one of them?" Rowan asked

"My daughters are currently sick so they are unable to greet you right now. Please forgive our discourtesy" he said and bowed his head

"No problem" he concluded

I've heard so much about his daughters especially the younger one and I was hoping to see them during my visit here but I guess I won't be able to see them this time. How can both of them fall sick at the same time though? He's not hiding them from us on purpose right? Anyway, I didn't hear much about the eldest daughter and it's making me even more curious about her. Alpha Ashen announced that his first daughter hasn't gotten married because she was focusing on her responsibility which he refused to disclose and since then, he hasn't said any other thing. I don't think it makes sense that she's not married at that age but so many things don't make sense in this place anyway.

Rowan and I decided to take a stroll in the garden and while we were deeply engrossed in the conversation, I bumped into someone or maybe the person bumped into me. I turned around to lash at whoever it was but my mouth hung open and my breath caught in my throat when I saw who it was. Standing before me was the one person I so badly wanted to see, the lady with a veil that I saw yesterday and just like I thought, her eyes were very pretty. I could only see her eyes since she was wearing a veil just like yesterday and I became even more drawn to her.

"I'm sorry for bumping into you, please forgive me" she apologized quickly and bowed her head, snapping me out of my fantasy. Her voice sounded quite shaky, is she scared of me?

"It's okay. I was absent minded anyway" I said as calmly as I could, trying to get rid of her fear

"Thank you" she said quickly and turned around to leave but stopped after taking a few steps. Wait, what is this? This strange yet familiar scent, I can't mistake it for anything in the world. Did she realize too?

"Mate!" my wolf screamed and I couldn't help the smile that curled on my lips.
