CARTER'S POV
The words hung in the air between us and my first thought, the one that came before anything else, was that she was lying. Had to be lying. Grace wouldn't get pregnant now, not when the bet was public and our marriage was over and she had every reason to trap me with a baby that would tie us together forever.
"You're lying." I dropped my hands from her shoulders, stepped back. "This is—what, revenge? You think if you tell me you're pregnant I'll panic and offer you more money? That I'll suddenly become the husband you wanted?"
Her face did something complicated, cycled through hurt and anger before settling on cold contempt. "I'm not lying. I'm three weeks pregnant. I took three tests this morning and they were all positive."
