The first explosion did not sound like a normal blast.
It sounded controlled.
Professional.
The street lit up as the convoy sealed the block from both ends.
Sophia stumbled forward as all three men, Adrian, Lucas, and Victor, pulled her into motion at the same time.
“Move!” Adrian barked.
Lucas dragged her left.
Victor pulled her right.
And Sophia was caught in the middle, nearly losing balance as chaos swallowed the street behind them.
“Stop pulling her apart!” Adrian snapped.
Lucas shot back, “Then stop acting as if you own her!”
Victor said nothing—just tightened his grip and kept moving toward the SUV.
Gunfire erupted again.
Glass shattered overhead.
Sophia ducked instinctively as Adrian shielded her body with his.
“Stay behind me,” he ordered again, his voice strained from pain.
She looked at his arm.
Blood had spread through his sleeve.
“You’re injured,” she whispered.
“I said I’m fine,” he replied sharply.
But his grip tightened anyway.
Lucas opened the rear door of a black SUV.
“This way!” he called.
Victor moved toward the same car at the same time.
Adrian blocked him instantly.
“No,” Adrian said coldly. “She is not getting into your vehicle.”
Victor’s eyes narrowed.
“And she is not staying with you while you bleed out and slow her down.”
Sophia’s head spun.
“Stop!” she cried.
All three men froze for half a second.
That was enough for the extraction team to advance.
A red laser sight appeared on Sophia’s chest.
She gasped.
Lucas reacted instantly.
He pulled her hard into the SUV.
“Get in!”
At the same moment, Adrian grabbed her waist and pulled her back.
Victor grabbed her wrist again.
And suddenly—
All three were inside the SUV doorway together.
Sophia was trapped between them.
“Are you insane?” she shouted.
A bullet struck the roof of the SUV.
The vehicle jolted.
Lucas shoved Adrian inside first.
Adrian stumbled but immediately pulled Sophia in after him.
Victor followed without hesitation.
The door slammed shut.
Silence lasted exactly one second.
Then—
The SUV sped off.
Inside, chaos continued in a smaller, tighter space.
Sophia sat in the middle seat, pressed between Adrian and Lucas.
Victor sat across from them, watching everything like a chessboard.
Adrian immediately checked Sophia’s body.
“Are you hurt?” he asked quickly.
She shook her head.
“No.”
His eyes softened slightly.
Then hardened again as he looked at Lucas.
“Who are you really?” Adrian demanded.
Lucas leaned back calmly.
“I told you,” he said. “I’m her family.”
Adrian scoffed.
“You show up during an assassination attempt and expect me to believe that?”
Lucas turned to Sophia.
“Tell him.”
Sophia swallowed hard.
“I don’t know what to believe anymore.”
Victor spoke quietly from across.
“You’re all missing the real issue.”
All eyes turned to him.
He opened a small encrypted device.
On the screen—Sophia’s name.
Then a second file.
Then a third.
Adrian frowned.
“What is that?”
Victor answered calmly.
“Three separate organizations are currently tracking her location.”
Lucas added, “Four.”
Sophia felt her stomach drop.
Victor continued.
“Two of them are government-linked.”
Adrian stiffened slightly.
“And the third?”
Victor looked at Sophia directly.
“Private inheritance enforcement.”
Silence filled the SUV.
Even the engine noise felt distant.
Sophia whispered, “Inheritance enforcement?”
Lucas nodded.
“Your child is tied to a restricted genetic inheritance clause in the Pierce lineage contract.”
Adrian snapped immediately.
“There is no such thing.”
Victor tilted his head.
“There is now.”
The SUV turned sharply, tires screeching.
They were being followed.
Adrian noticed instantly.
“Driver!” he shouted. “They’re behind us!”
Lucas didn’t even look.
“I know.”
Sophia turned around.
Two black armored vehicles were closing in fast.
Her heart slammed.
“Are they going to kill us?” she asked.
Victor answered calmly.
“No.”
A pause.
“They’re going to retrieve you.”
Adrian pulled Sophia closer again.
Overprotective.
Possessive.
Angry.
“No one is taking her anywhere,” he said firmly.
Lucas looked at him.
“That is not your decision anymore.”
Adrian’s jaw tightened.
“She is my wife.”
Sophia flinched again.
Lucas said quietly, “And I am her blood.”
Victor added, “And they will not care about either of you when they get inside this vehicle.”
As if on cue—
A loud impact hit the back of the SUV.
The vehicle swerved violently.
Sophia screamed.
Adrian immediately pulled her into his chest, shielding her head.
“Hold on!” the driver shouted.
Another impact.
This time stronger.
Glass cracked.
Lucas grabbed a hidden weapon from beneath his seat.
“So it’s like that,” he muttered.
Victor remained calm.
“They were waiting for us to split from the main convoy.”
Sophia looked up at Adrian.
“Who are they?” she asked desperately.
Adrian didn’t answer immediately.
His eyes were fixed on the road behind them.
Then he said quietly:
“People who erase problems permanently.”
Another hit.
The SUV lurched again.
This time, it slowed.
The engine coughed.
Lucas swore under his breath.
“They’ve disabled the rear stabilizer.”
Victor checked his device.
“We have less than ninety seconds before full interception.”
Sophia’s breathing quickened.
“I can’t do this,” she whispered.
Adrian turned to her immediately.
“Yes, you can,” he said firmly.
Lucas looked at her, too.
“You already are.”
Victor added:
“There is no exit unless we force one.”
The SUV suddenly took a sharp turn into an underground tunnel.
But ahead—
Another blockade.
Black armored vehicles are waiting.
Trapped.
The SUV slowed to a stop.
Silence.
Only engine ticking.
Sophia looked between all three men.
“No…” she whispered.
Adrian slowly reached for her hand.
Lucas did the same.
Victor opened the door slightly.
Then said the words that froze everything.
“They’ve boxed us in.”
Outside the vehicle, footsteps approached.
Slow.
Heavy.
Coordinated.
A loud voice echoed through the tunnel:
“Hand over the subject.”
Sophia’s breath caught.
Adrian tightened his grip on her hand.
Lucas prepared his weapon.
Victor stepped toward the door.
And then,
A final message came through Victor’s device.
He read it.
Then I looked at Sophia.
His expression changed for the first time.
Because what he saw was worse than the ambush outside.
He turned the screen toward her.
A live feed.
A hospital room.
And inside,
A newborn baby is crying.

Sophia went completely still.
And Victor whispered:
“They already took one of your children.”
