How unusual... I watched the girl from a distance to see if there was an alternative motive to my buying. Instead, I find her confiding in the help, expressing her feelings about my attitude and behavior.
I walk through the dark halls of the castle, explore every wing and each room individually. I rip out a loose board from the flooring of the east wing in an abandoned portion of the castle with furniture covered in white sheets and dust. I place the small box containing my spirit in the hole and replacing the board. With my spirit well-hidden I am free, at least for now; but why give my freedom back to me? The fairy trader told her I murdered several of her own kind in my capture, it doesn't make any sense.
I make my way back to the stairs near the kitchen backing myself into the shadows. I watch her as she brings food up the stairs her fiery red curls bouncing behind her. She knocks on my door attempting to serve me before having eaten herself. So odd to see a human behave in the way she does. So foolish but I won't lie and say I don't find her absolutely stunning. If this is real, I'll protect her with my life, it's the least I can do for her giving me back mine.
The thought has crossed my mind to just take my spirit and leave but weighing my options it does seem safer to appear to be owned by an upper-class human. Theres always the chance of capture out there on the streets and the forests.
I approach her quietly standing behind her. She looked almost disappointed when the door didn't open. She turned and gasped crashing into me nearly falling to the hallway floor. I grab her and steady her back to her feet.
I wanted to scold her, to tell her to be more careful before she breaks something. Instead, I question her, "Is that for me?" She stumbles over her words, and I raise my eyebrows. She lets out a heavy sigh.
“I knocked but there was no answer so I thought I would just leave it for you. I didn’t want to bother.” She seemed relieved, must be something truly frightening for her to go through the trouble she has for me
"There is no bother." I told her
“I thought you may have declined my offer and had left; I really meant it when I said you’re free.”
“I was simply getting a layout of the castle and surrounding area. It’s important to know the land in order to protect you.” I stared at her shiny red hair stepping closer to her. She smells like raspberries and vanilla, it's intoxicating.
Her face turned as red as her hair, and she backs away in a way that's anything but graceful.
I saunter back into my room and eat the dinner she had brought for me, it's hard to really know who her so called stalker could be. he only appears hooded to her. I stare out the window watching the never-ending revolving door of people coming in and out of the castle. so many workers he would blend in easily amongst the crowd.
Him! I look to the forests edge to see a hooded black figure hiding in the bushes. His head c****d sideways spotting me almost immediately and taking off through the crowd. I spent the entire afternoon searching for him but nothing to show for it.
I search the castle till I found my fiery little redhead lying on one of the couches with a book in her arms. I start to approach her till she jumps up startled. She can't see me humans' eyes aren't as advanced as fairies. she focuses in on me to my surprise and I make my way back farther into the shadows. I watch her rub her eyes and make her way back up the stairs stopping at my door hesitating before making her way up the hall to her grandmother's previous room.
