After Brittany’s plan failed, Richard tightened the security detail in the pack.
If I had known, I wouldn’t have allowed him to bother—he already carried enough worry, and I hated the thought of turning our home into a fortress over one failed attack. But he did it secretly behind my back.
I only found out because I noticed the extra enforcers lingering near the suite, the way Torren started walking me to every meeting, the new locks on the outer gates. When I asked Richard about it, he just kissed my forehead and said, “Better safe than sorry, little mate.”
I let it go. I didn’t want to fight. Not now. Not when everything else felt so perfect.
Tomorrow was our first real scan.
The thought made my heart flutter every time I remembered it.
