The forever pact

Chapter 3

Two days after her ugly experience, Aurora sat on her bed in the little room that she was given, when Rhoda rapped on her door. Without waiting for an invite, she pushed it and entered.

“We are going to discuss Emily’s engagement. Mother needs you in the general room immediately”.

She had turned to leave when Aurora grabbed her by the sleeve, making her turn back.

“Wait. Her engagement? I didn’t know that she had already been proposed to”

Rhoda eyed her up and down before deciding to answer.

“I didn’t know that we had to report our every movement to you. Mother wants you there now. And please, never touch me with those filthy hands, ever again. Now I have to change my dress”, Rhoda said and banged the door on her way out.

Emily is getting married already? But what is her business with whether she got married or not? Aurora didn’t understand why her family suddenly decided to discuss her sister’s engagement when their father was not around. It seemed kind of weird, but she couldn’t put anything past them. She reluctantly went out and was shocked when she met Elliot in the hallway. She ran to him and wrapped her arms around him in a tight embrace.

“Elliot. I knew you’d come back for me. I’m so happy that you came back”.

She had been heartbroken when she found out that he was unfaithful, but she still loved him and hoped that they will work out things

“Oh, hi Aurora. I didn’t expect to see you here. They told me you were away-” Elliot said, his voice guarded.

“I thought you came back to talk things over,” Aurora said, her heart sinking.

Elliot gently drew her away from him and his face turned serious. “Okay. I think we really need to talk anyway”

Aurora felt a knot forming in her stomach. She knew that tone of voice all too well. It was the tone he had used when he found out about his affair. Aurora took a deep breath and braced herself for whatever was coming.

“What is it, Elliot?” she asked, trying to keep her voice steady.

“I think it’s time we talk about us”, Elliot said, his eyes avoiding hers.

“What do you mean?”Aurora asked, her heart pounding in her chest

“I mean that I can’t go on like this, Aurora. I thought I could, but I can’t. I’ve been thinking about it a lot, and I don’t think we should get married”, Elliot said, his voice barely a whisper.

Aurora felt as though she had been punched in the stomach. She had never expected this. She had thought that Elliot would come back to her, begging for forgiveness.

“What are you saying, Elliot? Are you breaking up with me?” Aurora asked, her voice shaking.

“Yes Aurora. I’m sorry, but I think it’s for the best”, Elliot said, his eyes finally meeting hers.

Aurora felt tears welling up in her eyes. She couldn’t believe what she was hearing. She had thought that Elliot was the one, the man she would spend the rest of her life with. Now, that dream was shattered.

“How can you do this to me, Elliot? After all this time?” Aurora asked, her voice breaking

“I’m sorry. I never meant to hurt you, but I just can’t go on like this” he said, his voice full of regrets

She closed the space between them, took one of his hands and placed it on her breast, while the other went to her waist.

“Is it because I told you that I was not ready? See, you can have me now. You can take my purity now. I am ready, Elliot. Just please, don’t leave me”

Elliot exhaled sharply as his hands felt the softness of her chest. His lips moved closer to hers involuntarily.

“Aurora…” He whispered

Aurora shushed him with a finger to his lips. She closed the space between their lips and kissed him.

“shhhh. Don’t say anything. I am ready, Elliot. You can have me now. We can have those beautiful children that we’ve always talked about”

Despite his resolve, Elliot found himself crashing his lips against hers. Aurora opened her mouth to grant him more access. He kissed her like a man starved of water in the desert, probing, searching and seeking. A voice behind made them break the kiss immediately. Aurora turned back and saw Rhoda and Emily staring daggers at her.

“Elliot, mother needs your attention now” Rhoda said, taking Elliot by the hand.

Elliot gave Aurora a long stare which looked like it was filled with regret and pity before leaving with Rhoda. Emily clapped her hands thrice once they were out of sight.

“Well, well, Aurora Greenwood; I knew you had bad intentions towards our family. You are trying so hard to get his attention, aren’t you?” Emily taunted

“I am only trying to make up with my fiancé. What is it to you? I haven’t done anything wrong”

Emily scoffed, “Your fiancé? You lost the right to call him that the moment I slept on his bed. He is mine now. Go somewhere else if you want to seduce someone. Do not embarrass yourself in front of our family. Elliot is the successor of the Tebrils Resources. Do you think that he would have spared you a glance if not for your witchery?

This simple sentence was enough to cut through Aurora’s heart. In spite of this, Aurora started laughing. She snorted as she pulled up her clothes to cover her shoulders.

“If you think that I am not good enough for him, so much so that he will not even spare me a glance, why are you so anxious?”

She moved close to Aurora and said threateningly, “Don’t play any of your stupid tricks. People from the Parker family will be coming later with their son. Don’t say that I don’t care about you. You will meet him later”.

“What do you mean? I never said that I wanted a husband from you” Aurora said

“Well, my darling sister, you do now”

With that, she turned around and started prancing back. As an afterthought, she stopped mid step and flashed a ring on her finger.

“Elliot and I are engaged now. We will be getting married soon. Just thought I should tell my big sister about my engagement before mother does”.
