“Allegra, what is it?” he asked, concerned. “Did I do something wrong?” Allegra was about to apologize and explain when she saw something jump from her face to his. Had she blinked, she would have missed it. It landed on his cheek, no bigger than a freckle, and then scurried into one of his nostrils. Her mouth hung open in disbelief and she stared at Everson’s nose, not completely sure that she hadn’t imagined it. But then Everson grabbed his face, and Allegra knew that something truly strange and nefarious was happening. “What in blazes…” Everson exclaimed, shaking his head and wrinkling his nose, stopping just short of sticking a finger up his nostril.
