Flight

As Tony's words hung in the air, Andy felt a sinking feeling in her stomach. She knew she had no choice but to comply with his request, even though the idea of using her powers to manipulate someone made her uncomfortable. With a resigned sigh, she nodded reluctantly, steeling herself for what she had to do. Approaching the man who Tony owed money to, Andy felt a surge of unease. She didn't like using her abilities in this way, but she couldn't defy Tony, not when he held her past over her like a dark cloud. As she gripped the man's neck and locked eyes with him, she felt a shiver run down her spine. "You will forget my father ever owed you any money," she commanded, her voice steady despite the turmoil inside her. "Now go at once." Before the man could respond, Tony interjected with his own demand. "Wait, hold on," he said, a sly grin spreading across his face. "Add that he should supply me his best bags of grain. I don't have money to buy." Andy's irritation flared at Tony's greed, but she knew better than to argue. With a heavy heart, she turned back to the man and added Tony's request to her command. "You'll supply your best bags of grain to us," she said curtly, her voice tinged with annoyance. To her surprise, the man nodded obediently. "Will do," he replied, his voice devoid of any trace of resistance. With that, he turned on his heel and hurried away, leaving Andy and Tony standing alone in the dimly lit alley. Tony grinned triumphantly, clapping Andy on the back. "Now that's how you do it," he exclaimed, his voice filled with satisfaction. "Let's go home." As they made their way back to Tony's place, Andy couldn't shake the feeling of guilt that gnawed at her insides. She hated using her powers to manipulate others, but she also knew that she had no choice. And as long as Tony held her past against her, she would be forced to do his bidding, no matter how much it pained her. With a heavy heart, she followed Tony home, knowing that this wouldn't be the last time she was called upon to use her powers for his benefit. But deep down, she vowed to find a way to break free from his hold and forge her own path, no matter the cost. As they drove home through the darkened streets of Eldoria, a heavy silence settled between Andy and Tony. The hum of the engine was the only sound that filled the car, amplifying the tension that hung thick in the air. Finally, unable to bear the silence any longer, Tony broke the quiet with a sigh. "Andy, you're quite alone," he said softly. "If you have something to say, just say it." Andy hesitated for a moment, her mind racing with conflicting emotions. She knew she had to speak up, to voice the turmoil that churned inside her, even if it meant risking Tony's anger. "I can't keep living like this, Dad," she said, her voice barely above a whisper. "I can't keep using my powers to use and cheat people. I just can't." Tony's expression softened, his features drawn with sympathy. "You're not using or cheating people, honey," he replied gently. "You're just protecting us from all these people." "But am I?" Andy countered, her voice tinged with frustration. "Just the other day, you made me compel the electrician to fix the lights for free, or do I mention the free groceries you get from the store? You and Mum." Tony's jaw clenched, a flash of anger flickering in his eyes. "Okay, you know what," he said tersely, his voice strained. "I'm not going to let you insult me. I made a promise to your mother before she died, that I will take care of you. And you know how we live, things are really hard." Andy rolled her eyes, feeling a surge of resentment bubbling up inside her. She knew Tony was trying his best to provide for them, but she couldn't shake the feeling that there had to be another way, a way that didn't involve manipulating and exploiting others. "I'm trying... I'm really trying," Tony continued, his voice tinged with desperation. But Andy remained silent, staring out the window as the city passed by in a blur. Deep down, she knew that something had to change, that she couldn't continue down this path forever. As they pulled up to their home, the warm glow of the porch light greeted them like an old friend. Vanessa's cheerful voice floated through the air as she stepped out to welcome them. "Hey, honey! Welcome home, you two," she exclaimed, her smile radiant despite the late hour. "Hi, Mum," Andy replied, her voice tinged with exhaustion as she climbed out of the car. Troy, their neighbor, appeared from the shadows, his eyes lighting up at the sight of the fresh vegetables in Vanessa's arms. "Oh, when did you get those?" he asked, his curiosity piqued. Vanessa chuckled, "Oh, the fruit lady, the one we did our little magic on, brought them not too long ago," she replied, a hint of satisfaction in her tone. Tony joined in the laughter, nodding in approval as he inspected the bounty of fresh produce. "They look fresh," he remarked, his eyes alight with appreciation. But as Andy watched her parents share a lighthearted moment, a wave of frustration washed over her. She couldn't shake the feeling of guilt that gnawed at her insides, knowing that their laughter was built on the backs of others, on the manipulation and exploitation that had become all too familiar. With a heavy sigh, she shook her head and turned away, her footsteps heavy as she trudged toward her room. Vanessa noticed the change in her daughter's demeanor and furrowed her brow in concern. "Is she okay?" she asked Troy, her voice filled with worry. Troy nodded, a sympathetic look in his eyes. "I'll go and talk to her," he offered, moving to follow Andy inside. But Andy was quick to shut the door behind her, barricading herself in her room as Tony's insistent knocks echoed through the house. As Andy sat alone in her room, the weight of her decision pressing heavily on her shoulders, she knew she couldn't continue living this way. With a heavy heart, she made up her mind to leave, to break free from the chains that bound her to this life of lies. Quietly, so as not to alert her sleeping parents, Andy gathered her belongings, her hands shaking with a mixture of fear and determination. She stuffed her few possessions into a small backpack, her heart pounding in her chest with each rustle of fabric. After dinner, when the house had fallen silent save for the soft rhythm of Tony and Vanessa's snores, Andy knew it was her chance to escape. Drawing upon her hybrid abilities, she listened intently from her room, the sound of their slumber guiding her movements. With careful steps, she tiptoed through the darkened hallway, her breath catching in her throat at the slightest creak of the floorboards beneath her feet. Every nerve in her body screamed for her to turn back, to abandon this reckless plan and return to the safety of her room. But deep down, she knew that she couldn't stay, that she had to find the truth of her origins, no matter the cost. Finally reaching the front door, Andy paused for a moment, her hand hovering over the doorknob as she hesitated on the threshold of freedom. But then, with a resolve born of desperation, she pushed open the door and stepped out into the cool night air.
