CHAPTER TWENTY-FOUR
Wervon Square was packed. Given the ban on alcohol and most other forms of enjoyment in Asperia, executions were now very popular. Iolo and his forces were assembled with concealed weapons near the platform where Toluk was going to be viewing the execution, while Roubar and Krolith got as near to the scaffold as possible.
A wooden block on a raised platform was where Asomorph was to be executed. An executioner wearing a black hood and wielding a large axe waited for his victim to arrive in the square. A band with a group of rather poor singers was brought on to entertain the crowd before the proper event. They sung songs about King Alex sacrificing children to a demon and other unspeakable activities with a horse.
Eventually a cart brought Asomorph to the stage.
