“Chateau Hotel, please,” he told the cab driver and slid in. She waved him goodbye. He had forgotten he said he’d chaperone her. That meant taking her home safely. She started leaving and she heard him call her. She returned. “Come into the car. I’ll drop off my things at the hotel and then take you home.” Suddenly, she felt strange about the whole thing. She remembered she didn’t know the man. “No,” she replied. He came out of the car and picked up her hands. He was about to speak when she quickly withdrew her hands. “Aside from wanting to accompany you home, Hannah, I also want to get to know you. I want to know where you live.
