He looked completely calm as he waited for me to answer. He had the look of a man who wasn’t in any hurry. It was possible we could sit here all night if he decided to make us.
I exhaled sharply, realizing that I would have to come clean to one of the brothers eventually—and perhaps this was a sign to open up to Cassian.
He was the most carefree of all the brothers, and I knew my secret would be safe with him. He’d be too engrossed in himself to realize he had something worth sharing with his brothers or father. And telling him might also stop him from becoming suspicious—of me or even my mother.
