Chapter Three
A World of Dreams

TWO WEEKS PASSED WITH no word from Rein. Despite his lack of response, Kaelyn sent him messages every day. Perhaps the first few weeks were so intense he didn’t have time for personal matters. Dividing her time between researching the perfect university for a doctorate in genetics and the water horses’ aggressive riding schedule kept Kaelyn busy. When her mother sent for her, Kaelyn was pleasantly surprised to discover their trip to see Miras.
“Zoldoren University?” she gasped, “This is perfect! I can’t wait to see it and to see Miras! Did you know they have a huge medical research division?”
Queen Aeryn smiled and hugged her daughter. “I’m so glad. We’ll have someone look after Sal and Shol while we’re gone. It should only be a week, possibly more if you want to stay for the autumn ball.”
“Can we tour the university? I want to study genetics, and the university is the top-ranked School of Medicine in the galaxy.” Kaelyn squeezed her mother’s hands as she searched her face for a response.
“Medical school?” The queen answered hesitantly, “I had no idea you were so ambitious. Of course, I can arrange a tour, but we must discuss many things before considering you continuing your education.”
“Yes, I know. I’ve done my research. I want to go to medical school then get my doctorate in genetics. The application process opens next month and, with a sibling already attending the university, I’m certain I will be accepted.” She hugged her mother once more and hurried to her suite to pack for the trip.
Queen Aeryn called after her, “We leave at first light. It will take a day to reach Zoldoren.”
