WHEN KAELYN WOKE UP, a bright light was shining in her face, Sofi was standing over her. “Kaelyn, can you hear me?” Sofi asked as the bed scanned Kaelyn’s body.
Chord and Miras appeared on either side of Sofi. “Where am I?” asked Kaelyn.
Chord answered, “You’re at the medical school. It’s closed for the weekend.”
“Okay, you two need to go out to the hallway while I examine her,” Sofi ordered, pulling a pair of surgical scissors out of a drawer in the small room no larger than Kaelyn’s walk-in closet.
Miras grabbed Chord’s arm as they closed the door behind him. “This is crazy, Chord. You’re putting Kaelyn’s life at risk.”
