Rae drove home after church on Sunday and almost didn’t get over to her mother’s. In the end, she walked the several blocks in an attempt to psyche herself up to be with other people. She hadn’t realized how much she’d come to rely on Ben for conversation. She’d only met him a month ago, but she’d gotten used to sending him a text and having it returned almost immediately.
