Chapter 7: Never say never

1053 Words
The sound of the door closing behind me stopped me short before realizing that we were already home. Pugsley was already halfway up the stairs while my dad walked towards his office and Mum towards the kitchen. “Mum, Dad, Pugs, can I have a moment of your time?” ‘Girl, relax. You sound too polite.’ Davina's voice rang in my mind, and I took a deep, shaky breath. ‘I’m trying to, but it's not as easy for me as I thought it would be.’ ‘I know, girl, but you need to calm down so you can properly explain to them.’ I inhale deeply once more. ‘Alright, let’s get this over with.’ “Honey, can this wait until tomorrow? As you can see, we are all exhausted.” My mom looked at me with eyes filled with stress. I looked at the remaining two and saw a similar expression on their faces. Should I just wait until tomorrow, then? ‘No, Elly, it’s now or never. What if you don’t dare to do it tomorrow? Just get over with it, girl.’ “No, Mum. It can’t. I need to show you guys something." I shook my head at her. “I’ve not been truthful to you guys. Especially with what happened today. I know I acted purely on my decisions without thinking about the consequences that the decisions would incur. Now I regret it. Though at the same time, it’s still the best decision I could have come up with without drawing attention to me. Because if everyone knew, it could endanger not only my life but the lives of you all, and that is the last thing I want to happen. Which is why I did what I did. I’m sorry, Mum and Dad; I didn’t mean to hurt you with it. I’m truly sorry. I will try…” I rambled on and was eventually cut off by my dad. “Wait a minute, El, slow down and explain yourself properly. What is it that you did that harmed us? As far as I know, you’ve done nothing to hurt us, darling.” He gazed at me with confusion, and the same went for my mum and Pugsley. They all looked at me with confusion. I let out a sigh. “I think it’s best if I show you guys. But promise me you won’t overreact to it and draw other pack members' attention here.” “Honey, hold on.” My mum rushed to me, worried. “I’m worried. What do you plan to do? What do you want to show us? Why should others not know about it? Is it something dangerous?” "Mom..." I turned to my father, who had quieted down and seemed to be grasping the situation. He understood the look I gave him, walked up to my mum, and moved her from my side. “Love, please calm down. Let her show us first what she means.” He gave me a nod and a smile that made me feel at ease, signaling me to go ahead. I looked at my brother, who had been standing quietly all this while. “Pugs, please, can you assist me in locking the doors and windows and drawing the curtains shut?” He didn’t wait for me to repeat my request before nodding and quickly doing as I had asked. Within a few minutes, we were done with that, and I walked to the center of the living room. I gestured for Pugs to help with moving the furniture aside so that there would be enough space for me after I shifted to my wolf. When all was done, I closed my eyes and receded within myself and gave Davina reign over my body. The switch was almost immediate. It was as fast as blinking one’s eyes. It was painless and beyond what anyone, including Alphas, had experienced before. As soon as she took over, still in my human form, my aura changed drastically, which was felt by my family. I quickly dimmed my aura and, with my power, put a shield around our house to prevent prying eyes and ears from noticing anything that took place within the walls of our house. I heard their collective gasps and felt the shock that was slipping out of them. “Oh, don’t be surprised yet. Just wait and see what I can do. Then you will know that this is nothing.” Davina opened her eyes and smiled smugly at them, enjoying their shocked looks. I rolled my eyes at her. ‘How predictable.’ She snickered in return. “Hi everyone, I’m so excited to finally meet you. You don’t know how long I’ve been waiting for this day to come. Gosh, I even thought I would never meet you guys in this lifetime. But what can I say? Never say never. Hehe.” That brought them out of their shocked state. “Oh, hell,” Pugsley exclaimed and took a few steps back unsteadily. “Oh, my goddess! El… Eleanor, you… you…” my mom stammered over her words. “How come?” “Now I see what you meant. You already have your wolf and are well-adjusted to the change. Now it all clicked. But what I don’t understand is why you hid it from us, your family. Can you tell me why?” My father gave me a heartbroken expression. If I were in control of my body, I would have tried to reach out to him, but unfortunately, it was Davina who was in control, and one thing that she lacked with all the powers that came with her was empathy. Which I’ve tried my best to teach her to no avail. “Well, as you’ve guessed, I’m her wolf, Davina, and I was forced... I mean, we had our first shift as early as five, which was under a very traumatic situation. But luckily, I came to the rescue and dealt with the threat. So the reason she hid my existence from…” “Wait, wait, wait. You said you had your first shift at the age of five? Holy moly." Pugsley cut her off. “Oh, my God,” my mother gasped out in horror, and her legs grew numb.
