Chapter 6 Lend Me Five Hundred Bucks

1088 Words
Carol was sitting on the leather sofa in the office and sipping on the top-quality black coffee made by Wendy King, her secretary. This type of coffee was preferred by women because it could reduce abdominal fat. At the same time, Carol's personal information was prepared by Wendy and placed in front of Joyce. Carol, 23 years old, had won the national women's fighting championship at the age of 18. After serving in the military, she joined the Women's Special Forces. Over five years, she completed seventeen missions, earning personal commendations twice with gold stars, five times with silver stars, and once with a bronze star. She was proficient in Sanda, free combat and anti-terrorism. After five years of military service, she chose to retire and founded a female bodyguard company. In just one month, she had gained a prestigious reputation in the industry, specializing in personal protection that male bodyguards couldn't provide. After seeing these, Joyce couldn't help but admire Carol. As a woman herself, Joyce still envied Carol's skills. Joyce closed Carol's file and looked at her, "My dad has told me. You can stay at my place. But I should warn you in advance, there's someone else at my house who might make you uncomfortable." Carol didn't reply to Joyce's words. Joyce smiled and glanced at the watch on her wrist. It was almost noon. "Let's go grab lunch first. I'll also introduce our company's situation to you, which would be helpful for your future work." Joyce said as she rose from her chair, fxing her slightly wrinkled black skirt. Her long and straight legs were impeccable. Carol set down her cup and said to Joyce, "Ms. Foster, I think before we have lunch, you should deal with the bugs in your office." "Bugs?" Joyce frowned. She had never known that there were bugs in her office! "You don't seem to know there're bugs here." Carol said as she stood up. She searched around the office corners and took three small bugs from beneath flower pots, wall corners, and the innermost part of the bookshelf. Seeing these, Joyce's expression turned grim. She didn't know how long had they been in her office? How much of her business had been overheard? Who was behind this? While Joyce was angry about the bugs, she also got to know Carol's capabilities. She was indeed a professional bodyguard. Fred walked out of the residential area and arrived at the Foster Tower. It was just past lunchtime. As a commercial center, the CBD had various snack shops. Fred looked around and found a coffee shop where he could see Joyce's office through the windows. Sitting by the window, he had the best view of the Foster Tower. If anything happened, Fred could rush to there immediately. Of course, he wouldn't expose himself until the assassin showed up. The coffee shop exuded a bourgeois atmosphere. Relaxing background music could be heard. There were also some green plants placed on the shelves. Fred noticed that there weren't many people in the coffee shop. A girl who looked about seventeen or eighteen was looking at her phone screen, murmuring something to herself. There was also a man in a shirt, trying to sell his products to a client sitting opposite him. Fred ordered some pastries and the cheapest cappuccino, enjoying his food. He kept his gaze outside the window. About half an hour later, Fred locked onto six targets. There were six men lingering outside the Foster Tower, all in their thirties. Two of them each drove an old pickup truck, while the other four had their attention focused on the Foster Tower, occasionally glancing towards the top floor. In the bustling CBD, these six men were hard to notice, but they couldn't escape Fred's eyes. Fred was about to stand up and get them first, then interrogate them carefully. However, he saw Joyce walking out of the Foster Tower. Beside her was a woman with tanned skin. With just a glance, Fred could tell that the woman beside Joyce was skilled. Her gaze constantly scanned the surroundings, and her body was ready for action at any moment. Fred pondered for a moment and abandoned the idea of getting the six men first. He left the coffee shop and headed towards Joyce. Joyce had a quick lunch with Carol at the company. Due to the discovery of bugs in the office, Joyce was restless. She wanted to take Carol home to see if their home was bugged too. Just as Joyce was about to leave, she saw a man she despised walking towards her. She had warned him not to come to her! "Ms. Foster," Fred approached Joyce with a smile, but his smile only disgusted her. "What are you doing here?" Joyce looked at the unkempt Fred. Fred's height was about 180 centimeters , so he didn't look weak. And he was handsome. However, Joyce found him repulsive because she knew that no matter how good-looking he was, it couldn't change the fact that he was incompetent. Furthermore, his outfit—white tank top, beach shorts, and flip-flops—would make people feel he was sloppy. Fred smirked at Joyce and said, "Ms. Foster, can I borrow five hundred bucks from you? I'll pay you back next month when I get my salary." This was the most appropriate excuse Fred could come up with. He couldn't tell Joyce that someone wanted to kill her, and he was here to protect her. Upon hearing this, Joyce felt more disgusting. She didn't want to waste time talking to Fred. She took out five hundred bucks and gave them to Fred. "Here you are, and you don't need to repay me. After all, your so-called salary is from my family. Don't show up at the company again!" After saying that, Joyce ignored Fred and walked towards the parking lot with Carol. When they reached the car, Joyce noticed that Fred was still following them with the annoying smile on his face. "Why are you following me?" "Ms. Foster, where are you going?" Fred asked, while secretly evaluating Carol. "Go back to home!" Joyce didn't bother explaining further to him, because he knew that once she did, this persistent man would pester her with questions, which was annoying. "Well, take me with you." Fred rubbed his hands. "Otherwise, I'll have to take a taxi back home. It's too expensive." "There's no room." Joyce rejected without hesitation, pointing to her Mercedes GT, which only had two seats.
