Chapter 12

The days leading up to the trial were brutal and Jay had become more and more stressed we had a very successful lawyer on our side and our case was strong. Jay wanted to go alone today but I told him I was going to and Jaden had to come anyway. We were sat in the court room and the judge came in Jaden looked at me "She's dressed funny" he giggled. I smiled and Jay looked at me. I nodded and we sat down. "Alright case 789 Miss Natasha Hill wants full custody of Jaden Duke, Jay Duke is fighting for full custody also" The trial began and Jaden sat on my lap and didn't move or speak once, his head was on my chest and he was watching Jay. Natasha's lawyer spoke first, "Your honour Mr Duke has a track record, he was caught doing illegal drugs at a party when he was 18 and is an alcoholic" he handed the judge an envelope and she pulled out of the photos. "Who are you" the judge pointed at me. "I'm Simran Duke, Jay's wife" I spoke and Jaden piped in. "And my mama" he was nearly three and I didn't understand how he was aware of everything. He was very mature for his age. "Alright Mrs Duke, Jaden will you let go of your mother so she can come up" he shook his head no. "Sweetie" I began bet he clinged on to me. "It's alright you can stay there, just need to answer a few questions. I nodded and she held up the photos. "This is you" the photo was of me helping Jay into the car that day when I found Natasha kissing him. "Yes it is" "Can you explain exactly why he was this drunk?" "Well, we had just got married and Natasha came in and started threatening us to take Jaden away, Jay started getting stressed and I went to his office and found him like this and brought him home. That photo only shows one day, every other day he is completely sober. He was scared and was too afraid to loose Jaden. Natasha left him and took his money now she demands to be back in his life, after three years why now" "Alright, where was Jaden at this time" "I had left him with Jay's parents at their house, they took him out and played games and I knew he was safe there" I answered. "Jay, what do you have to say about this?" "I love my son and wife and I was so scared to lose him I lost control only for a day, I don't want to lose my family when I only just completed it" he spoke. "Seriously this is guilt tripping you, watch she is going to leave you just like I did" Natasha yelled. Jaden started sniffling a bit, "Jaden, we need to ask you a few questions will you come with me please" he nodded and I took him to her. They disappeared for about 10 minutes and Jaden came back in with an ice-cream in his hand. "Mommy, daddy look what the nice lady got me" he showed us his ice-cream and sat down on the bench. "Miss Hill, Jaden told me you hurt his mother would you explain please" "I went to their house, and she threatened me so I retaliated" she looked at her for a moment and turned to me "Would you like to explain please?" "Well we left Jaden at his grandparents for the night and when we picked him up the next morning Natasha was there Jaden was crying and she threatening Jay and I stepped in. She retaliated and slapped me" "And did you hit her back" I shook my head "No I didn't drop to her level" The trial went on for another couple minutes and Natasha's true colours came out. Jay had built up a pretty amazing case. Natasha had been to jail on several occasions for drink driving drugs and other felonies but her files were kept private. I was positive that we would win this case.
