Letters, Plans and Promise

Kayden’s POV Royale Academy was a great school. Not just because of the environment—but because of the attention. The past few weeks had been interesting… aside from the incident with his dad’s accident, which still lingered at the back of his mind. Kayden leaned against his locker, scrolling through his phone. He had lost count of how many girls had confessed to him. And he had rejected every single one. It wasn’t that he hated them. He just didn’t want anything serious. His thoughts shifted to one particular girl. Persistent. Unusual. “…Here she comes,” he muttered under his breath. “Please don’t let this be another confession.” Right on cue, Reese appeared. Without saying much, she shyly handed him a folded letter and immediately ran off. Kayden blinked. “…Again?” Shaking his head, he opened it. The letter read: It’s Reese again—your number one fan and future girlfriend. I don’t really know how to explain how I feel, but I hope this letter helps you understand. My banana in banana smoothie (don’t laugh), you make my heart race like crazy. I’ve never seen someone as handsome as you. You’re hotter than a Bunsen burner set to high heat. I know I sound silly, but you’ve completely messed up my brain chemistry—in a good way. I tried to ignore these feelings, but I couldn’t. There are so many girls around you, and sometimes it feels like there’s a “divider” between us… but I don’t care anymore. If I could rearrange the periodic table, I’d put Uranium and Iodine together—because “U and I” belong together. You’ve already decoded my heart, and now I can’t put it back together. Even hearing your name sends electric signals through me. I’ll stop here before I embarrass myself even more. —Reese Kayden stared at the letter for a moment… Then, without realizing it, he smiled. A real one. He shook his head, chuckling softly. “She’s definitely crazy…” But he carefully folded the letter instead of throwing it away. After a long day at school, Aurora and Kayden returned home, both exhausted. Aurora barely dropped her bag before heading straight to her parents’ room. She knocked lightly. “Dad? Are you in?” “Come in,” Noah replied. “What’s up? Just came to see your old man?” Aurora stepped in with a small smile. “Actually… I wanted to ask for some money.” Noah raised a brow. “Didn’t you just get new clothes last month?” “I’ve already worn those,” she complained. Noah sighed, amused. “Aurora…” “I wish Grandma was here,” she muttered. “She’d have bought me everything I wanted.” Noah chuckled, then leaned back slightly. “Alright. How about this—do you have any plans for Sunday?” Aurora shook her head. “We’re visiting Louis and his family,” he continued. “If you and your brother behave yourselves… I might consider updating your wardrobe.” Aurora’s face lit up instantly. “Deal!” She kissed his cheek. “Love you, Dad!” Then she rushed out of the room to find Kayden. Sunday Morning Kace lounged on his bed, phone propped up as he video-called Warren and Jason. As usual, Warren was talking nonstop. “…I’m telling you, I actually like her,” Warren said. Jason raised a brow. “You? Actually like someone?” “Yeah, Aurora,” Warren replied confidently. “But that doesn’t mean I can’t talk to other girls. We’re not together.” Jason sighed. “You two are unbelievable.” Kace scoffed. “Can you both stop talking about her like that?” Warren smirked. “Why? Isn’t she your target?” Kace’s expression sharpened slightly. “I already told you—I’m going to get close to her and get my revenge. That’s all.” Warren frowned. “Then stay out of my way. I actually like her.” Kace shrugged. “If she chooses you, fine. I’ll back off.” A pause. “But she won’t.” Jason leaned forward. “You sound awfully sure.” Kace smirked. “I always am.” Warren shook his head. “You’re underestimating her. She’s not easy.” Kace’s eyes darkened slightly. “That’s what makes it interesting.” He stretched and ended the call. “I’ve got guests coming over anyway.” Downstairs, everything was being prepared. Neither Kace nor Aurora knew… That this “family visit” was about to bring their worlds crashing together.
