The First Move.

A few days after the incident, Aurora walked into the school corridor, her mind elsewhere—until a sharp, excited scream cut through the air. “Aurora, dear! I’m back—just for you!” a girl shrieked, putting on her sunglasses and spreading her arms wide for a hug. Aurora froze, then slowly facepalmed. “Oh gosh… why me? And how did she even find out I attend this school?” The girl’s expression crumbled. “Aren’t you happy to see me?” she asked, on the verge of tears. Aurora didn’t even hesitate. “Absolutely not.” With that, she walked past her, leaving the girl standing there. The students had all settled into their classes. The room buzzed with chatter as Aurora sat beside Leena, the two of them deep in conversation. The noise quickly died down when Mrs. Selesta, their English teacher, walked in. Everyone straightened up almost immediately. Across the room, Kace leaned back in his chair, his eyes drifting toward Aurora. Ever since their last encounter, he’d been determined to get back at her. And in his mind, there was only one way to do it—break her heart completely. He had even made a bet about it with his two closest friends. As if sensing his gaze, Aurora looked up. Their eyes met. He smirked. She glared. “So annoying,” Aurora muttered under her breath. Kace moved to the back of the class and sat beside Evans, who had been alone. Mrs. Selesta scribbled a date on the board before leaving, which immediately sparked complaints from the students. “Ugh! Resumption exams are next week. I hate this,” Leena groaned. “That’s because you’re lazy,” Aurora teased with a small laugh. “I hate you,” Leena shot back, though she couldn’t hide her smile. Aurora chuckled. Suddenly, Shayla appeared in front of Kace’s desk. “Kace, can we talk outside?” Leena leaned closer to Aurora. “Watch this… she’s about to embarrass herself.” Kace didn’t even look up properly. “I’m not interested in you anymore. So move.” The classroom fell into stunned silence—then erupted into noise. Without a care, Kace pulled out his headphones and placed them over his ears. “Wait—what?!” Evans shouted. “Did that really just happen? Shayla got rejected?” Laughter broke out across the room. Shayla’s face burned with embarrassment. She shot Evans a sharp glare before walking back to her seat. Evans simply shrugged and made a dismissive gesture, clearly unbothered. At lunch, the cafeteria was packed with students. Aurora and Leena found a table and sat down with their trays. Moments later, Kace, Warren, and Jason approached and took seats across from them. Aurora frowned immediately. “We didn’t invite you.” “And you don’t own the table,” Kace replied coolly. Jason sighed. “Guys… maybe we should just sit somewhere else.” “No. We’re fine right here,” Kace and Warren said in unison. Leena leaned toward Aurora. “Let’s just move. It’s not worth it.” “Yeah,” Kace added mockingly. “You’re free to leave.” Aurora stood up, gripping her tray. “Enjoy the table.” Without another word, she walked away. Leena quickly followed. Jason shook his head. “Why do you keep trying to get her attention like this?” Kace didn’t look up from his food. “Mind your business.” Warren leaned back dramatically. “Oh no… I think I’m starting to fall in love.” Kace and Jason both scoffed.
