Tangled hearts at Royale academy

Aurora stepped out of the school corridors and headed toward the entrance. Just as she reached the gate, her eyes landed on Kayden—leaning against his car, far too comfortable with a girl sitting in the passenger seat. “Seriously, Kayden? Get a room,” she said, rolling her eyes. The girl turned, clearly annoyed. “And who are you supposed to be?” Aurora smirked. “The rightful owner of that seat you’re sitting in. Now move.” Before the girl could argue further, Aurora nudged her aside, ignoring the girl’s complaints as she climbed in. “Good afternoon, Mum,” Aurora greeted as she walked into the house. Her mother beamed from the kitchen. “Sweetheart! How was your first day? Did you make any new friends?” Aurora dropped her bag with a sigh. “Friends? More like enemies. Apparently, being this pretty is a crime.” “But it seems Kayden had no trouble making friends,” she added with a sly glance. “Just be quiet, will you?” Kayden snapped, tossing his backpack onto the couch. “Hey! Take that to your room before I get upset!” their mother called out. “Yes, ma’am,” he muttered, picking it up reluctantly. Aurora turned back to her mom. “Where’s Dad? Isn’t he home yet?” “He had to stay overnight at work, honey. There was an emergency,” Sophie replied gently. “Oh… I wanted to talk to him,” Aurora said softly. “I guess I’ll just take a nap.” She headed to her room, her thoughts lingering. As evening settled in, a girl from Royale Academy stood in front of her mirror, carefully applying her makeup while chatting with her friends. “The new guy, Jackson… he’s actually kind of cute,” Ixora said from the bed, filing her nails. “Yeah, he’s cute,” Shayla replied, brushing on mascara. “But not as cute as Kacey.” Winter scoffed. “Please. He’s not yours. None of us are exactly innocent here—but you just happen to know him longer.” “Whatever,” Shayla said, unfazed. “If I didn’t matter to him, would I be spending the night at his place?” Winter raised a brow. “Wait, that’s where you’re going? I thought you were heading to a party with how dressed up you are.” Shayla smiled, grabbing her purse. “No party. Just a night I won’t forget. See you in the morning, girls.” With a playful wave, she walked out. Kacey groaned as loud knocking pulled him from his sleep. “Who is it?” he muttered, irritated as he dragged himself to the door. He hadn’t been in a good mood since earlier that day. Opening the door, his expression hardened. “What do you want?” “I won’t stay long,” Shayla said calmly. “Just… let’s not make this difficult.” She walked past him as if she belonged there, heading straight for his room. Kace sighed and shut the door behind him. “Whatever.” The next morning, Aurora stretched lazily as sunlight filled her room. Suddenly remembering her dad, she got up quickly and began checking around the house. His room—empty. His study—empty. She searched everywhere, but there was no sign of him. “Did he not come home at all?” she wondered aloud. “What is Mum going to say about this?” “Talking to yourself again?” Kayden’s voice came from behind her. She turned, frowning. “You better get ready fast,” he added with a yawn. “I’m not waiting for you today, dummy.” He walked off before she could respond. Aurora crossed her arms. “Oh, you will wait for me,” she called after him, heading back to her room with determination.
