Flashback: The soft golden sunlight poured over the lush meadow, wrapping Misty and Donovan in a warm embrace. Surrounded by wildflowers, they lay on an inviting blanket, the world beyond fading into a perfect painting of happiness. Misty turned her head, captivated by Donovan's emerald eyes gleaming with excitement. “Look what I brought,” he said, sitting up abruptly, a smile blooming across his face like a kid in a candy store. He reached into his bag, pulling out a small, hand-carved wooden box. The intricate designs reflected the sun’s brilliance as he carefully placed it between them. “Donovan…” Misty leaned closer, curiosity sparkling in her sea-green eyes. “What is it?” She said in awe. “Open it,” he urged, his voice thick with anticipation, eyes dancing with mischief. As she lifted the lid, a soft, delicate gasp slipped from her lips. Inside lay two matching necklaces, each adorned with a small pendant, twinkling like the stars above. “They’re beautiful!” Misty squilled. “You like them?” Donovan grinned, the pride in his voice evident. “They’re perfect!” Misty beamed back at him, her fingers grazing the smooth wood of the box. “We’ll wear these during the shifting ceremony," Donovan declared, his voice laced with emotion. “It’ll be our first symbol of unity.” Misty’s heart raced at the thought, warmth flooding her chest. “I can’t wait,” she said, a smile stretching widely across her face. “We’ll be mated at last.” Donovan nodded, the corners of his lips curving higher as the brightness of her smile filled him with elation. “We’ll travel to the mountains after the ceremony, just the two of us, exploring whatever adventures life throws our way,” she proposed, the dream flooding her mind like a vivid tapestry of laughter and love. Donovan's eyes sparkled at the thought, enthusiasm bubbling up inside him. "Yeah! We’ll hike trails no one has explored, discover hidden waterfalls, and have our own little picnic by the lake. Just us.” His voice was laced with excitement, and Misty could see the vision taking shape in his mind. "Just us," he echoed, and the gravity of those words hung in the air like a delicate thread binding their dreams together. Misty leaned in closer, absorbing the warmth of his presence. “ “Promise me nothing will ever tear us apart,” she whispered, her heart pounding at the thought of their future. The energy between them pulsed like a living thing, connecting them in a way that felt electric. Donovan’s gaze softened, full of depth and understanding. “Nothing will come between us,” he whispered, brushing a strand of Misty’s hair behind her ear, his fingers lingering on her cheek. “You’re my everything,” he continued, but a flicker of doubt danced behind his bright gaze, momentarily clouding the warmth of his expression. Misty tilted her head to catch his eye, concern knitting her brows together. “Donovan…” she urged softly, seeking to peel back the layers he often masked with a smile. “What’s bothering you?” He hes itated, his fingers tracing patterns in the grass, as if seeking the right words. “It’s just… there’s so much pressure, Misty,” he finally admitted, his voice barely above a whisper, as if voicing it any louder might shatter the fragile moment. Misty moved closer, concern etched on her face. “What do you mean? Is it about the mating ceremony? Because this is what we’ve always wanted!” Donovan’s gaze dropped, his fingers still dancing nervously over the grass. “It’s not just that. I don't know. What if, what if things change? What if the pack pressures change us?” His words hung heavy in the air, each syllable laced with a fear that pulled at Misty’s heart tightened at his vulnerability. She took a deep breath, searching for the right words to reassure him. “We’ll face it all together, Donovan. You’re not alone in this journey. I’m right here,” she declared, capturing his face gently with her hands, her sea-green eyes steady and unwavering. “Together,” he echoed, his voice softening as he leaned into her touch, drawing strength from the solidity of their bond. “Nothing out there can break what we have.” Misty's heart swelled at his words, the weight of their connection grounding her in the moment. She leaned in, brushing her lips against Donovan's forehead in a tender gesture. “Whatever challenges we face, we’ll face them as one,” she whispered, her voice a warm promise wrapping around them like a soft blanket.
