Chapter 22Ashley I TURNED ON a football game for a little background noise and a change of pace. From the kitchen, Natalie asked me to make a salad and set the table, while she pulled the sweet potatoes from the oven. I stood by as she added almost a whole bag of marshmallows to cover the top. “That's a lot,” I said. “Yeah, I know. I like it that way, and the marshmallows will be nice and brown.” She looked over her shoulder. “Get to work.” She took out plates and glasses for the table, carved the white meat off the bird, enough for both of us.
