The warriors had gathered as ordered, but they weren’t alone.
Despite my attempt to keep the situation contained, word had spread through the pack faster than I’d intended. By the time I reached the main perimeter, other pack members were already there. Conversations hushed as I stepped forward, eyes turning toward me.
Warriors stood in loose formation near the edge of the grounds, their attention fixed on me. Beyond them, the tree line marked the beginning of the forest that bordered our territory. The wind carried the scent of rain, sharp and unsettled, the kind that warned of a storm forming somewhere not far off.
