Davian Two jeeps were waiting near the parking lot when I stepped out at exactly eight. Of course they were. Alex leaned against the front one like he owned the damn world, arms crossed, grinning wide enough to sell innocence to a saint. The moment he saw me, he straightened and clapped loudly. “There he is!” he called out. “The rogue slayer!” A couple of the warriors whistled. One of them banged on the jeep's hood. Another threw his arm around my shoulder before I even reached them. “Six rogues alone,” someone said, shaking his head dramatically. “We should be taking notes from you.” “Or checking if he’s even human,” another laughed. I forced a smirk, keeping my posture relaxed even though my instincts were already on edge. They were too loud. Too enthusiastic. Too coordinated. “
