Lily I left Davian’s room without looking back. The corridor blurred as I moved faster than I meant to, my steps echoing sharply against the stone floor. I nearly collided with a servant rounding the corner and murmured a quick apology without slowing. Someone else brushed my shoulder near the stairwell, and again I said sorry, the word automatic, distant, as if it belonged to someone else. By the time I reached my room, my pulse was steady again.
