CHAPTER 2

Zachary's POV

I was doing my usual early morning workout on the threadmill when my phone buzzed in my pocket. Checking the phone screen to see that it was no other person than Dan, my friend and co-worker.

"Hey man , what's up" I answered panting heavily

"I'm good but you need to be at the office as early as possible. Something came up and I think you need to fix it quick before your dad finds out" Dan answered sounding so frustrated and disturbed which made me wonder the urgent stuff that my father mustn't know of.

"OK, I'll be there in an hour" I ended the call and left the gym to go prepare for todays work. Its another day for me to work in the company that I detest so much which is my dad's company the famous Miller's group of company which i think is ranked the best in the business sector in the whole of Florida . I have no choice but to work there if I intend to keep my credit cards and my sanity. After having my bath, I walked to my organized closet to pick out my outfit for the day which happened to be a navy blue tuxedo and a white shirt with my favorite Rolex wristwatch.

I headed downstairs for breakfast and saw my parents and my sister at the dining table then I suddenly didn't feel like eating because I was not ready to listen to my parents talk about how I need to be more serious with the things I do and stop being too irresponsible blah blah..........

" Good morning" that's all I said facing my parents. Then I looked at my sister and smiled

"Hey Maya, Good morning"

"Good morning Zach, don't tell me you won't have breakfast this morning as well"

"I don't think I will be able to because I'm late for work and I have something urgent I need to attend to so bye" I replied not in any way waiting for her respond as I headed out the door

" Good morning sir" I heard Henry, my chauffeur say the moment I stepped out of the house.

"Good morning, I need you to drive as fast as you can to the office because I have something urgent I need to sort out at the office" I Uttered while rolling out the instructions as fast as I could, because the last thing I needed was anything taking more of my time.

"Hey Zach, can I go with you to the office? I'm meeting someone there and my car is faulty at the moment" I heard Maya say behind me.

I looked back at her and answered " If you will be going with me then you need to get into the car like right now because I'm in a hurry.

"I'm ready, I just need to get my hand bag from the sitting room" she replied and ran inside. She came back almost immediately and we got into the car.

Henry being the obedient driver that he was followed my instructions to the point that I even wondered why we didn't get followed by the police.

It was a silent ride with Maya typing away on her phone and me thinking of what could possibly have gone wrong at the office. I came down from the car immediately we arrived at the very tall building which happens to be my fathers company. A message came in on my phone and I opened it to read while walking when someone bumped into me and shouted.

I looked up from my phone to first check my suit to make sure that there was no stain of the coffee that the lady was carrying. Then I looked at the lady in front of me and was even surprised at her shouting on me. I called her out for bumping into me and to my uttermost surprise she talked back at me and even demanded that I pay for the coffee.

I gave her the money for the coffee only because I had other important things I needed to attend to and even added a great tip because she looked like she really needed it because of how poor she looked

I walked straight into the company totally ignoring the greetings from the staffs that came in contact with me. I went into Dan's office to demand for an explanation for the call I received this morning. Immediately I entered his office

“Thank God you are here i have been waiting for you” he said

“what exactly is going on here that you don't want my father to know about” I answered hastily because I was already loosing my patience.

“we just lost the contract that we've been pursuing for the past three months. I'm talking about the one with milestone corp.” I didn't even hear whatever it was that he was saying anymore because all that was resounding in my head was my father's voice telling me how useless, incompetent and how much of a failure I am which is his constant chant to me every time I make any mistake whatsoever no matter how little the mistake was.

“how exactly did this happen because I'm very sure that the presentation went very well ” I asked with my anger level rising every second

“It was Rachel that mistakenly sent a message meant for her friend to the company instead of the contract and trust me that message wasn't good so the company called back to……… ” I didn't even wait for him to complete his statement before storming out of his office to go to Rachel who happens to be the secretary to the marketing department.

“Good morning sir” Rachel said immediately she saw me with a trembling voice because I'm very certain she can feel the rage in me.

“You are fired” Immediately her eyes widened.

“But sir im so sorry it was just a little mistake and it wont happen again” she said with a trembling voice.

"That's the point. Mistakes are not allowed in this company no matter how little they are."I replied coldly and left her office immediately.

I went into my office which is neat and arranged as always because I also can't condone dirtiness. I sat down on my chair and called Dan immediately to look for someone to replace Rachel.

"You fired her?" Dan asked

"Of course"

"Man but that was a mistake that could have happened to anybody, including you"

"I don't make silly mistakes like that. Just forget about that and let's find a way to correct this before it get to the ears of my father"I said changing the subject from the girl.

"I think you should reschedule another meeting with them so that we can discuss the contract again with them" Dan replied and I thought of what he said and saw that it was a good idea.

"That's a nice one. Let's just hope that they agree to sign the contract again."

The door to my office opened and I know that its Maya because its only her and Dan that can come into my office without prior notice.

"What's up Zach"

"Dan I'll talk to you later, Maya just walked in" I told him

"Oh okay send my regards to her." He ended the call and I faced Maya.

"Sup sis, how was the meeting you had today"

"You know I actually canceled the meeting because something more interesting than that caught my attention" she replied sounding very happy.

"And what was this interesting stuff?" I asked.

"I'm not going to tell you now but trust me I'll let you know soon. Very soon." She replied.

"Okay if you insist. Right now I even have more important things to take care of." I said remembering the contract we just lost.

Maya must have noticed the disturbed look on my face because she asked me what happened and I explained everything to her.

"So how do you now plan to correct that"

"I already fired the lady that made us loose the contract and I plan to........."

"Wait, you did what?" She shouted cutting me off in the middle of my sentence.

"You fired her?"

"Yes I did and please I don't want to hear why I shouldn't have done that, I already heard enough from Dan"

"Zach you know what, I can't with you" she said already frustrated.

"That's why I was very happy when I witnessed how that girl put you in your place earlier this morning" she said smiling.

"So you saw that? How that nonsense lady was just talking rudely and constituting nuisance."

"Yes I saw it but I didn't see any lady talking rudely, I only saw a fierce lady putting you in your place which no one has been confident to except me obviously" she said and bursted into laughter.

"So that's what you have to say to this right? You know sometimes I actually wonder if I have the right family because I have parents that don't care about anything but to keep their status and a sister that never support me in everything I do" I replied feeling bad already.

Maya laughed and immediately came to me to hug me "Oh my big brother you know I love you and can do anything for you but I just can't stay quiet when you are wrong"

"You really need to learn how to say that you are sorry because it can really go a long way" she said smiling.

"Just leave me alone and go meet the lady since you are her sister and not mine" I said playfully because I actually can't stay angry at my little sister. I can practically say that she's the only family I have that cares about my wellbeing.

"Jealous much?" She answered. "You know that I can't trade you for anything. Anyway, just ignore me today and go on with your work I'll just keep myself busy on your couch so that when you are done we can leave together."

"No problem" I said and began my work fully for the day. Time passed with me trying every possible means I can to make sure that the contract was signed again and thank God I was able to get them to have another meeting with us.

"Maya, Maya" I said tapping Maya awake from her sweet sleep.

"Hmmmmm what? Is it time to go?" She said stretching her muscles.

"You are definitely the only person I know that wakes us still looking pretty" I said wondering why its like that because I don't even try looking in the mirror after waking up.

"Thanks Zach, that's like the best thing I've heard this year" she said smiling with all teeth showing.

"It wasn't a compliment, it was just an observation but take it how ever you feel like" I said carrying my suitcase and headed out of the office with Maya walking behind me.

We got into the car and went home straight with the mind that I'll go home to rest because I was so tired but when I got home resting wasn't on my father's agenda for me yet.
