CHAPTER 6 — First Warning

585 Words
Celestine — POV The sun was dipping low over the campus, painting the pathways gold and orange. I had finished my classes early and decided to walk back to the dorm. I was enjoying the quiet—until a group of students blocked the walkway. All of them were from the elite circle—Valtaros-affiliated. Tall, polished, confident, dripping with entitlement. “Ah, Celestine Navarro,” said the tallest one, a smirk tugging at his lips. “You’re that scholarship girl, di ba?” I stiffened. “Yes,” I said carefully, clutching my bag closer. The others chuckled. “Scholarship, huh… I hope you know your place,” another sneered, stepping closer. I forced a smile. “I’m just passing by. No trouble.” The first boy leaned down slightly, eyes cold. “Trouble finds you when you’re in the wrong place, girl. Maybe you don’t know how things work here.” My heart started beating faster. I could feel the tension coil around my chest like a spring. I could run—but I also knew… I had to stay calm. --- Auren — POV I was on the perimeter. Casually walking, scanning. Not really. My eyes found the disturbance before my mind fully processed it. Three elite students, cornering the scholarship girl. Valtaros blood. Entitlement written on their faces like a second skin. Celestine Navarro. My anomaly. I slowed my pace, letting them not notice me yet. Observing patterns. Reading microexpressions. The tall one leaned closer, intimidation in every movement. I recognized the subtle psychological tactics—territory, dominance, threat. All deliberate. I stepped slightly forward, unseen behind the shadows of the hedges. The moment their eyes flicked toward me—just a blur in the distance—the body language of the trio subtly shifted. They did not see me. But they felt something. An instinctive shift. I didn’t need to speak. I didn’t need to move more than necessary. And the girl—the one I was watching—remained upright. Calm, but aware. Analyzing. Calculating. Good. --- Celestine—POV The leader of the group narrowed his eyes, sensing… something. I noticed a shadow moving across the courtyard, or maybe it was just a trick of the fading light. “I said… know your place,” he hissed. A shiver ran down my spine. The words were small, the threat subtle, but the intent was clear. They wanted to intimidate. To test. To remind me that I was an outsider. I clenched my fists lightly, not letting them see fear. My mind raced: stay calm, analyze, retreat if needed. Then, a subtle shift. I felt it—like the air changed. Presence. Cold. Calculated. I didn’t see him at first. But instinct told me someone was watching. And then… the tension lifted slightly. The group’s smiles faltered, their confidence shaken. Without a word, they backed off and walked away. I exhaled slowly, trying to calm my racing heart. --- Auren—POV I had never intended to approach. Sometimes a presence alone is enough. Their instincts caught the edge of my attention. They recalibrated. Their intimidation lost its precision. Mission: silently protect—accomplished. My gaze lingered on her for a moment longer. She did not notice me. Yet she handled herself with composure. Impressive. Not weak. Not naive. She is… aware. And that—just that—makes her an anomaly I cannot ignore. I turned, disappearing into the shadows, leaving only the residual effect of my presence.
