Maya unhurriedly opened her eyes to the bright rays of the sun that permeated the window. She looked and sprang up when she saw Ryan lying flat on his stomach beside her. She drifted apart and lifted the duvet to meet her and Ryan completely bare.
"Hey, Ryan, get up!" Maya said in a stern voice. She tapped Ryan continually until he turned, stretching out his hands as a deep yawn escaped his mouth.
"Babe" Ryan tried lifting his right hand to touch Maya but was shoved off.
"I'm not your babe! What happened?"
"Are you asking me that?" Ryan sat up and glanced at Maya. "We had a good time last night, that's what happened."
"Did you add anything to my tea? Why was I weak?"
"Oh, please! Don't act like you didn't enjoy every bit."
"That's not my question! Did you drug me?" Maya was beginning to get furious. She was fighting hard to keep her wolf in check.
Ryan stretched out to pick up his clothes on the floor. Sitting at the edge of the bed, she forced his trousers up his thigh, zipped them, and walked out of the room.
Maya felt sadness and regret to shroud her. "Why didn't I stop him?" She muttered as she shut her eyes and placed her right hand on her forehead. Ryan's silence and actions confirmed her suspicion that he added something to her tea. Warding off the urge to cry her eyes out, she dressed up and went to the sitting room.
Ryan buried his face in the pages of a lifestyle magazine when Maya walked in to avoid her furious stares.
"Please leave my house." Maya pointed at the exit door.
"Maya, please become my mate, my woman." He closed the magazine and looked at her, ready to withstand her gazes and bitterness.
"I am Leo's mate and I regret everything that happened last…"
"Please, enough of that talk!" Ryan couldn't wait for her complete statement. He was certain Leo didn't love her and was hurt that this gorgeous woman who tickled his fancy was too blind to see this and take action. Placing the magazine on the table, he stood up and went close to her. "You wanted me last night because your supposed mate sexually starved you. Reject him Maya and come to me."
"What goes on between Leo and I is not your business. I love him and I believe he will come around."
"If you can't reject him, I will make him reject you. That's a promise, Maya. He doesn't feel anything and it would be so easy to do that."
"Get out!" Maya retorted. She already had enough and was done putting up with this wily werewolf and his shenanigans.
Ryan went through the door and turned to Maya who was inside the house. "I will be…" Maya hissed and slammed the door behind him before he could finish his statement.
Alone in the house, Maya reminisced on the events of the previous night. She sank into the sofa and let out silent sobs as guilt engulfed her. She knew she had done wrong and was ready to make amends.

The gunshots sent shivers down the spine of the two wolves as they ran into the thick forests. One was wounded in the knee but somehow still managed to keep up his pace. It knew its life was at stake and slowing down would be suicidal.
As they ran through the forest, the sound of the shots decreased. They knew they were close to safety but still made their way through the forest, though with a much-lessened speed.
The wolves got to a ranch-style house covered with snow in the woods. It seemed the sight of the house gave them a sudden relief as they wobbled to the entrance door amidst heavy pants.
Adolf was in the laundry room trying to put some of his clothes in the laundry machine when he heard hurtful growls of wolves at the door. He stopped for a second and assumed wolves were avoiding a predator or maybe the Montana wolves trying to lure him out.
The growls came again, and again till he couldn't ignore them. He was certain those were painful growls intended to catch the attention of the house owner.
On getting to the door, Adolf opened it and saw two wolves. One was badly injured with blood spurting out from his knees. He looked at their eyes and opened his door to let them in at that instant.
It was Cornell and Leo.
"Guys, what happened?'' Adolf asked. He knew the wolves could not say anything but the soft groans there replied told him that all wasn't well. Of course, something went wrong with the way Leo was limping.
Adolf observed the injury and heaved a sigh of relief when he discovered it wasn't a bullet penetration. He knew Leo would heal completely if he stayed in wolf form for a day or two.
Leaving the wolves to the comfort of the soft, velvety rug, he went to the bedroom and dialled a number on his cell phone.
" Adolf" The stiff voice at the other end spoke. It was Ben.
"Hello, Ben." Adolf was delighted to hear Ben's voice. Having dialled the number for close to a minute without an answer, he felt he might have to call back. "The wolves we sent to Blue Island Woods are back. They are in my house now."
"Cornell and Leo?"
"Yes. Leo sustained a minor injury but he will be fine by tomorrow if he stays in his wolf form."
"I will be there to see them the day before tomorrow. I believe they will be ready to change then and speak to me about their findings."
"Yes, sure."
Adolf placed his cell phone on the wooden table when the call ended. He walked into the sitting room and met the wolves curled into a ball with their eyes closed. He turned and tiptoed out to avoid disturbing their sleep, he knew they hadn't slept for days and needed rest to be fit.

Maya hummed to the dulcet sound of the song played on the television. The music somehow seemed to ease the stress of the house she was mopping as she imagined herself as a pop star with the mop stick as her microphone.
The sound of an incoming call caught her attention and she hurriedly reached out for her cell phone. She enjoyed her female chatters with Anabelle and was delighted that she was the one calling.
"Hello, miss," Anabelle said in her usual cheerful and humorous manner as Maya laughed out loud at her unsuccessful attempt to mimic a baby's voice.
"Anny, what are you up to this afternoon?" Maya was still fighting hard to keep her amusement in check as she talked.
"Nothing much. I just called to tell you that you would have company in no time."
"Company?" Maya was taken aback as she tilted her head quizzically. "Are you coming to visit?"
"Oh, come on, I mean your man's company."
"Oh, er… Leo's back?" The initial happiness she felt and the vitality in her voice vanished.
"Yeah, he is back. I was with Ben yesterday when Adolf called to tell him that Leo and Cornell had arrived. He was injured though but I believe he should have healed by now."
"That's great news, Anna." Maya didn't want to continue the discussion so her depressed, sad tone wouldn't be noticed. "I'm very busy now, I have to get going."
Maya hung the call at that instant, she knew Anabelle had other things to say but just couldn't let her, not with the sudden lump in her throat that made her voice gritty and her efforts to blink away the tears that gathered in her eyes.
When she dropped her cell phone, she buried her puffy, tear-stained face in her palms. Her thoughts ran wild as she imagined what Leo's reaction would be if he found out what happened between her and Ryan. She was certain she wasn't going to tell him but was saddened by the fact that she had skeletons that would hunt her.
Letting out a deep breath, she remembered Ryan's threats as her cry turned to whimpers. Her mop lay carelessly on the floor, her pop star act and background music forgotten.
