The party was still loud, but the mood felt different now.
Maybe it was because everyone had just watched Adrian dance. Or maybe it was because of the way Chloe stormed out earlier.
Either way, people kept staring at me.
“I hate this attention,” I muttered.
Maya laughed beside me.
“Are you kidding? Half the girls here are jealous right now.”
“That’s exactly the problem.”
Across the room, Adrian was talking to a few of his friends, but every now and then his eyes drifted toward me.
I quickly looked away.
“Stop staring at him,” Maya whispered.
“I’m not staring.”
“You totally are.”
Before I could argue, the front door of the house suddenly slammed open.
The loud bang made several people jump.
Everyone turned to look.
Chloe had returned.
But she wasn’t alone.
Three older boys walked in behind her.
They looked like college students—tall, confident, and clearly not part of the school.
The room slowly went quiet.
Adrian noticed immediately.
His expression hardened as he walked toward the door.
“Chloe,” he said coldly.
“What are they doing here?”
Chloe crossed her arms.
“I invited them.”
“That wasn’t the question.”
One of the boys stepped forward with a smug smile.
“Well, well,” he said. “So you’re Adrian Black.”
“And you are?” Adrian replied calmly.
“Someone who heard a lot about you.”
The tension in the room grew heavier.
Students slowly stepped back, giving them space.
I moved closer to Maya.
“This doesn’t look good.”
She nodded nervously.
The guy glanced around the room before pointing at Adrian.
“I heard you think you run this town.”
Adrian didn’t react.
“I heard wrong?”
The guy smirked.
“So let’s test that.”
He looked around the room again, clearly enjoying the attention.
“Let’s make things interesting.”
Adrian’s voice stayed calm.
“Leave.”
But the guy shook his head.
“Not until we settle something.”
Then his eyes moved across the room…
And landed on me.
“Is that the girl everyone’s talking about?”
My stomach dropped.
Adrian immediately stepped in front of me.
“Don’t.”
The guy chuckled.
“Relax. I’m just curious.”
He looked back at Adrian.
“Here’s the challenge.”
The room became completely silent.
“If I win a game tonight… she leaves with us.”
My eyes widened.
“Excuse me?!”
Adrian’s expression turned dangerously cold.
“And if you lose?” he asked.
The guy smiled.
“We walk away.”
Adrian didn’t hesitate.
“Deal.”
I grabbed his arm.
“Are you serious?!”
He looked down at me calmly.
“Trust me.”
But looking at the dangerous smiles on those guys’ faces…
I wasn’t sure if trusting him was the right choice.
