I stared at my closet for ten full minutes.
“I’m not going,” I muttered.
Then I looked at my phone.
Three new messages from Maya.
Maya: Are you getting ready?
Maya: Everyone is talking about the party.
Maya: You HAVE to come.
I groaned and dropped onto my bed.
“This is ridiculous.”
Why should I go to a party thrown by Adrian Black?
Especially after everything he had done.
But then I remembered the way he smirked in the cafeteria.
You’re scared.
My jaw tightened.
“Fine,” I said out loud.
“I’m not scared of him.”
An hour later, Maya and I were standing outside a massive house at the edge of town.
Music blasted through the walls.
Cars were parked everywhere.
“This is insane,” I whispered.
Maya stared at the house with wide eyes.
“He’s rich rich.”
I should have known.
We walked inside.
The party was already wild.
Students filled every room. Music thumped through giant speakers while colored lights flashed across the walls.
People were dancing, laughing, shouting over the music.
“Okay,” Maya said. “This might be the coolest party I’ve ever seen.”
I looked around nervously.
“Let’s just find a quiet corner.”
But before we could move further—
Someone grabbed my hand.
I turned quickly.
And there he was.
Adrian.
He looked different tonight.
Still wearing black, but the casual shirt and messy hair somehow made him look even more dangerous.
His gray eyes scanned my face.
“You came.”
I pulled my hand back.
“Don’t look so surprised.”
He smirked.
“I told you that you would.”
Maya slowly stepped away.
“I’m… going to get a drink,” she said quickly before disappearing into the crowd.
Traitor.
Adrian leaned closer so I could hear him over the music.
“So,” he said, “are you enjoying the party?”
“I just got here.”
“Well,” he said, “welcome to my world.”
I crossed my arms.
“You mean chaos?”
He chuckled.
“Something like that.”
For a moment, we just stood there, the loud music surrounding us.
Then suddenly—
A girl pushed through the crowd toward us.
She had long blonde hair and an angry expression.
“Adrian,” she snapped.
He sighed quietly.
“Not now, Chloe.”
Chloe?
Her eyes moved to me.
And instantly narrowed.
“So this is her,” she said coldly.
I frowned.
“Do I know you?”
“No,” she said sharply.
“But I know you.”
She crossed her arms.
“You’re the girl everyone’s talking about.”
I glanced at Adrian.
He looked completely unbothered.
Chloe stepped closer to me.
“You should be careful,” she said.
“Why?” I asked.
Her lips curved into a small, dangerous smile.
“Because girls who get too close to Adrian… usually regret it.”
The tension between us grew instantly.
I met her stare without backing down.
“Good thing I’m not trying to get close to him.”
Chloe laughed softly.
“We’ll see.”
She turned and walked away into the crowd.
I looked back at Adrian.
“Your parties are dramatic.”
He shrugged.
“That’s half the fun.”
But something told me this party…
Was only the beginning of bigger problems.
