The Almost Loss

William

I rushed home, away from Scarlet. I told James, who was my nephew but had to act like my uncle so that people would not get suspicious, what happened and then I rushed up to my room. I was walking in when a crow flew in. I watched it before I turned around to be met with my brother.

"Jace"

"Hello, Brother," he said with a smirk.

"Crow's a bit much, don't you think?"

Jace looked around. "Wait till you see what I can do with the fog." I watched him with rage eyes. Why was he here? Why did he come back?

"When did you get there?" I asked while I watched him carefully. Jace was walking around my room as he looked through my things, turning back to look at me. "Well, I couldn't miss your first day of school," he said mockingly. Standing by my bookshelf.

"Your hair's different. I like it."

"It's been 15 years, Jace," I grumble with annoyance. "Thank god. I couldn't take another year of the nineties. Does that horrible grunge look? did not suit you." Jace chuckles as he watches me, making his away across the room.

"Remember William, it's important to stay away from fads," Jace says. I start to grow impatient with his games. "Why are you here?"

"I miss my little brother."

"You hate small towns. It's boring. There's nothing for you to do." I begin to press. "I've managed to keep myself busy." he shrugs. "You know you left that Rose alive tonight? That's very clumsy of you. I knew you had no remorse but I didn't think you would attack one of the Grey twins" I scold and he sighs. "Ah, that can be a problem for you," Jace smirks but I see remorse in his eyes which is surprising. Is it because she looks like Katherine. I shake my head at his words.

"Why are you here now?"

"I could ask you the same question. However, I can be fairly certain your answer can be summed up all into two words Grey twins. William is it Rose or is it, Scarlett." He said smirking

"She took my breath away. They both did actually. Scarlett and Rose. They are a dead ringer for Katherine? Though Scarlett looks more like her. She's stunning. Is it working William? Being around her, being in her world? Does it make you feel alive?" he presses, taunting me.

"She's not Katherine."

"Well let's hope not. We both know how that ended. Tell me something, when was the last time you had something stronger than a squirrel?" he taunts and I scoff.

"I know what you're doing Jace, it's not gonna work," I say turning away from him till he pushes me back, hitting me in the chest. "Yeah? Come On. Don't you crave a little?" he pushes and I step away from him.

"Stop it," I say and he pushes me again. "Let's do it together. I saw a couple of girls out there." I watch him disgust and in shock as he hits me again.

"Or just.. let's just cut to the chase, let's just go straight for Scarlett, well because I already got Rose!" I feel anger start to build up when he mentions her name, pushing him back aggressively. "Stop it!" I snarl. "Imagine what her blood tastes like!" he shouts and I look away as I feel the hunger build up. "I can." I look back at him vamped out and I growl. "I said stop!"

Rushing towards him and running into a window.

Scarlett

As soon as we reached home, Noah went to his room, I could tell he was worried and so was I. I ran upstairs and took a shower, and washed my body. The heat of the scolding water calming me from the terrible pictures in my head. If I had lost Rose today, I wouldn't be able to take it anymore. 

I wore my golden and black T-shirt and shorts.

I quickly called May to ask how Rose was doing and to tell her I was going to go there and sleep the night in the hospital so that she could rest. As soon as I got off the phone I heard a bell, I went down and opened the door to see William standing there.

William

I walked up to Scarlett's door and knocked. I ran from the party without checking on her. I was pretty sure she was not okay with what happened with Rose today, and pretty sure she would try her best to hide it. 

She opened her door, she was looking beautiful in her black and golden shorts and T-shirt, which complemented her golden-brown hair. "umm..Hi, I didn't expect you to see here"

" Ya sorry, I just came to check on you, to see how you are holding up?"

"William I am fine, just worried about Rose"

" Did you get hurt, why do you have a bandaid?" I asked her for observing her arm.

" No, No, I had to donate some blood, um...because Rose lost a lot of blood today and mine was the most compatible to hers." She said quietly.

" You must be tired, you should rest," I said worriedly.

"No, I am fine." 

"Where you heading out??" I asked sensing her restlessness

"Umm..ya I was going to see Rose"

"May I come with you, you know to check on her"

"Ya, ya obviously" she replied smiling.

So we went to the hospital, she was unusually quiet during the whole trip.

Scarlett

I was deep in thought about Rose and everything going on. I still had a gut feeling that William was hiding something from me.

We reached and got out of the car. I directly went to Rose's room and William followed. Rose was peacefully sleeping but she looked helpless. Seeing her made me feel guilty, only if I had been with her, she wouldn't have got attacked. I tear slipped from my eye, I quickly wiped it away, hoping William didn't see it. But he did.

He was looking at me with a concerned look that said "Are you fine? "

This was too much for me, everybody showing me pity since the accident. I snapped " WHAT??"

"Just wanted to make sure you were fine" "Oh my god how many times do I have to say I am OK, that is the only thing that people have asked since the accident," I said getting angry.

He looked a little taken back but didn't say anything. Then I realized he was just trying to help, I calmed down and said: " Really sorry William, I shouldn't have snapped at you, I am sorry..." I continued moving towards him and the next thing he did surprised me the most.

He hugged me. His arms were so strong, I left my whole body weight on him and he didn't even flinch. He took me to the couch and we sat, I was still in his arms. Everything I was holding back since the accident came pouring out and seeing Rose like that added fuel to the fire. I cried and cried. William kept holding me and said, " It's going to be fine ". I trusted him even if I didn't know him properly. "William, I don't what I would have done if anything would have happened to Rose. I love her so much. If I would have been there with her I would have..." I trailed off.

"Oh, Scarlett! you can't protect everyone and anyways you wouldn't be able to fight an animal" He said trying to joke.

" Oh don't doubt me Mr. Herondale I certainly can beat an animal ass," I said chuckling in between my flowing tears.

He did make me feel special. He kept looking at me a few seconds, then we both moved close to each other and kissed."Well, that was nice" I said shyly.

He chuckled and pulled me into a hug, whispering " We will talk about it tomorrow, you are too tired to stay awake."

He was right I was too tired by now. But before I go into my slumber I had to ask him " Hey, can I call you Will?" " Yes, and can I call you Scar?" He said chuckling. I nodded and laid my head on his lap and before I could say anything to him again, I fell asleep.
